# Has anyone ever met or seen Cecil Adams?

This may be a silly question, but:
Has anyone here ever met Cecil Adams (the StriaghtDope GURU)? Is there a picture of him floating around somewhere? Does he truly exist or was he constructed by the Chicago Reader like those fake movie critics?

Well, sure, people have seen Cecil. The only problem is, their heads all exploded from witnessing the glory of the Master, so they’re not around to talk about it.

Cecil Adams is just as real as Ronald McDonald, Betty Crocker, Aunt Jemima, Tony the Tiger, Reddie Kilowatt, Charlie the Tuna, Uncle Ben, Mrs. Butterworth, Sara Lee, Mr. Clean, Captain Crunch, the Jolly Green Giant, the Trix Rabbit, Mr Whipple, the Maytag Repairman, the Budweiser zoo, etc. etc…
Unlike Duncan Hines and Chef Boy-r-dee, he did not have any prior corporeal existence.
You may prefer to believe that he/she does exist, that the name is an alias for one person whose everyday life would conflict with the Cecil aura.
In reality, Cecil is much like a comic book hero that is the long term assignment of a head writer who channels his/her vision into the established character.

The character Cecil does respond to posts like yours from time to time.

Met Cecil? Was it a meeting? Or was it a life changing merging of souls?
He stood in the rain, cloaked, but not protected, waiting for the 56 bus headed West…I pulled up, rolled down my window and smiled. He knew. There were no words, he simply got into my car, shook the rain from his dark, thick hair and lit a cigarette.
