Damn. I would have explained that’s exactly how innumerable consumer products are purchased. Then would have sent him a low-ball figure that I “feel is fair” and explained that’s how I bought my last three houses. He can counter or accept the offer, but you’re not going to pay “another $100” when you get there… What brand of car was it?
Yes it was.
That was your foot in the door. You could have had it for $38100.
Volvo.
I did. He said a car is closer to a house than a bottle of shampoo!
I just chatted with this friend and she’s now the Internet Sales Manager. She provides price quotes to online inquiries all day. Either direct inquires like I did or from third party web quote services. Though now above MSRP quotes are the norm, not an FU.
I asked for a few of “internet prices” from some Honda dealers. They were all MSRP plus $1500 of dealer add-on scams like nitrogen filled tires etc. One dealer’s website in Wichita Kansas (I’m in Oklahoma) said that if they had to title out of Kansas, they’d add $2000 to the price. That’s just insane.
Actually just got my new car from Subaru. As I mentioned above, it was originally scheduled for March before being moved to April. I got it on April 1, so it was only a day late compared to its original estimate. I heard nothing about the delivery date from February until I got word on Friday that it was available for pickup. They could have done more to give me updates as the delivery day was getting closer, but in the end, I got it pretty much on schedule. It’s a fun car too.
