Just wondering if anyone here has lived in one city their whole life. You were born, raised, and still there? I’ve moved aroud a lot in my twenties. Feel free to chime in if you also lived in the same metro area but not city. For instance, if you lived in the suburbs of Chicago as a kid but the city of Chicago as an adult. It would be really interesting to see if any of you have lived in the same HOUSE you’re entire life 🙂 ---

The subsections of Los Angles are Silverlake, Hollywood, North Hollywood, Panorama City, and Canoga Park. The map says it’s 56 miles round trip. But it’s LA… I like to say I come from the biggest small town in the world. ---

Yes. Other than 2 years spent in jails outside of Manchester, and 4 mths in different places around Europe, the rest of my almost 48 years has been spent in my city of birth. ---

I have lived in the Ottawa area for all but 6 months of my life. I took a short term ex-pat job in the UK for 6 mos in my late 20s. I now live in the same house I grew up in. We moved here when I was 2. But I didn’t live here between the ages of 24 and 42. I joke that I moved into this house twice … 40 years apart. Of course, now it is MY house and not my parents. For the time between 24 and 42 I lived in Nepean, a western suburban city, although towards the end of that time the cities amalgamated and became one big happy city (Ha!). And from 0-2 I lived in Gloucester … the eastern suburban city … also amalgamated into Ottawa in the late 90s (or was it 2000?). ---

My husband has, if that counts. He lives on the same property that his parents lived on when he was born. I think when he married his first wife they lived in an apartment in this same town but only for a couple of years, while they built this house we live in. ---

I have a close friend (also a member of this forum) that is 41 y.o. and has lived in the same house and with his mother his entire life. He’s also receiving disability because he has bipolar disorder. ---

I live in my hometown, but spent 13 years away before moving back. My mother has never lived anywhere else, same with my father more or less (he spent some years as a child about 50 miles away). Two of my siblings have never lived anywhere else, and the third only left for two years before coming back. I know lots & lots of people who have never lived anywhere but here. I think it’s better to get away for a while, even if you do end up coming back, just to give some perspective. ---

I’ve lived here my whole life save a few months in Nevada. I love Memphis and never want to leave. I haven’t lived in the same house, but I did for 25 years. I still live in just about the same neighborhood. ---

I’m from Chicago, but joined the military so I’ve moved all over, finaly settling in CO, but recently, my grade school class is having a reunion and are coordinating via Facebook. I’m surprised by the number of people I graduated with that are still in the same old neighborhood. ---

Melbourne by itself is pretty big if you count all the suburbs, I have friends that live around Frankston and they say they live in Melbourne and it’s like an hour away if you’re taking the train to the city proper. I’ve lived in the same town my whole life except for one year spent abroad, same house too but saving up to buy my own hopefully by next year, I think we moved in when I was a few months old. ---

I’m almost as awesome as **Sigmagirl**. I moved out of my parents house (the house I was born in) to a house down the street. Unless something spectacular happens, I’ll probably die here (I’ll let you know in 50+ years). ---

If you count “within 350 km of Toronto” as the same place, then yes. ---

This is very, very common in Rhode Island. I really can’t explain it to people who didn’t grow up here, but coming from such a small state (RHODE ISLAND IS NOT A UNIT OF MEASURE, KTHX) makes your worldview very different. There are people (mostly older people) who have probably never been more than 20 miles from home. My grandmother lived 92 years in the same town. Not only the same town, but in the same oh, maybe 5 miles. My parents (in their early 60’s) have too. My brother (31) has as well. I’ve moved around a lot, but have settled in Providence, which is about 15 minutes away from my parents, and they view coming here to “the city” as a hassle and “far away”. ---
