Except it isn’t? Maybe you should try it now. Here’s a story, here’s a bunch of videos. Most of the higher up leadership of the PLA got their spurs in 1979, why wouldn’t they be talking it up every chance they get?
I’ve only lived in them for short periods of time.
It fucking pisses me off when people suggest that the US under GWB was equivalent to the Nazi regime. Even Uzbekistan, China and Afghanistan (to name three places that are all oppressive, though not the worst, and in different ways) are a gazillion times worse than the US under GWB.
That said, morally speaking, anyone who supports such regimes as are found around the world in my opinion has the same weight to bear. Clinton, Bush and Obama have all been ambivalent towards the suffocating regimes in Central Asia and in other parts of the world.
That doesn’t mean we can compare our own situation to theirs, though.
But by “we” I don’t include black men. I think that there are some parts of the country in which the oppression suffered by black men in particular (as evidenced by imprisonment rates vs. crime rates, among other things) could be compared to an oppressive regime, yes. It’s pretty amazing.
