# Has anyone played the Sherlock Holmes games?

I’ve seen a few Sherlock holmes games advertised on the web. If they are what I assume they are, they are my choice of game. Slow paced with deep thought and Holmesian logic.
Has anyone played these games? How are they? Were you successfully? Are they worth the $20.00 to download?

Here’s my review of [Secret of the Silver Earring](http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/adventures-of-sherlock-holmes-the-silver-earring/561811p1.html).
I don’t think I still have the game, or I’d let you have it. I don’t think that particular title is worth $20. $10 at most.

It’s not a genre I’ve followed much lately, but you can probably find what you’re looking for by going to [JustAdventure.com](http://www.justadventure.com/). I’ve found their review scores skew high, but if something piques your interest, you can always check the compilation reviews at [www.metacritic.com](http://www.metacritic.com) and see what the general consensus of the game is.

I know Steam has _Shelock Holmes - Nemesis_ and _Sherlock Holmes - The Awakened_ demos for download, and I believe they may also be available elsewhere.

I’m such a cro-Magnon, I used to have the boxed board game. It was fun. I even wrote an adventure for it, and playtested/GM’d it for some friends.

I’ve played **The Awakened** , and liked that quite a lot, but that may have been because of the Cthulhu Mythos background – anything dealing with the Mythos seems to get a bonus from me, including Lovecraft’s own writing.
Anyway, I found the riddles to be imaginative and entertaining (if occasionally a bit hard – I remember one puzzle that consisted of two long strings of numbers on a piece of paper, and nothing else to go on, but then I’m not usually much of an adventure gamer), and I understand it was the first in the series to be in 3d, which I thought was pulled of rather well; but obviously, what really pulled me in was the plot, which I thought excellently done and faithful to both Doyle’s Holmes and Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos in so far as that is possible.

Zork Nemesis was the most Myst like of the series and excellent to play.
Zork Grand Inquisitor was great to play and returned to the original Zork humor in the dialogue.

I have a number of older games that are Myst like, but I won’t mention them if you don’t ask for them, seeing as their older. They have lots of puzzles, but the graphic don’t compete with today’s stuff.
