I know Prop 8 is being challenged in the Supreme Court of California. If I understand CA law the earliest an initiative re-legalizing same-sex marriage could appear on the ballot is June 2010. Has any started an initiative to amend the CA constitution to repeal Prop 8 yet? ---

I live in CA, and had gathered the impression that initiatives could be placed on the ballot in any statewide election, so your 2010 figure may be incorrect. However, my Google-fu is not finding support for this belief searching [ca.gov](http://ca.gov). On the other hand, it’s sometimes strategically wise to wait to put an initiative to the voters in a “big” election, so that some of them actually show up and vote. So the next big chance for an initiative to pass may be fall 2010. I have no idea if anyone has started up a not-prop-8 initiative process. I’d imagine everyone on both sides is waiting for the CA courts to work through this.
