Specifically, alcohol knocks you out… until it dissipates from your system at around an ounce an hour. Then you snap awake, just rested enough that getting back to sleep is a bitch.
I used to love old NyQuil, before they totally defanged it. When I was suffering from the onset of a cold and stress and so forth, a healthy shot of NQ would make me sleep like the dead and wake up ready to wrassle elephants. The new stuff isn’t worth pouring down the toilet.
Alcohol is good for falling to sleep for a few hours, and then you wake up and can’t go back to sleep. So you take two Benadryl (or two gulps of zzzQuil) and hope for the best (both only last four hours and the alcohol should have lasted four hours too. So you get 8 hours).
The instant they changed the Nyquil’s sleep ingredient (diphenhydramine) to the unisom one, it didn’t work for me anymore. So the zzzQuil is great.
It does for me too, but it stops working after a couple of days. Then I take three instead of two. Then it starts working again. Then it stops working again after a couple of days. Then I stop taking it altogether for a few days and bingo - it starts working again. I’m pretty much allergic to everything all year long so it’s never ending.
Sniffle.
Here’s an anecdote for y’all. My mom told me that one of the women in her AA group (this was years ago) was told by her sponsor that her sobriety date was wrong - she was taking Nyquil for a few years while in the program. She had to change it and not use Nyquil due to its alcohol content.
Sorry for not double quoting - I should have made this one and the one above it one post. But I’m kinda stupid, so forgive me.
