Nah! Heās still very much around, just has lots to do and doesnāt post as much as the old days. He read the board today but hasnāt posted for six weeks or so.
Noteāplease donāt fill his head full of such nice sentiments. Heās really a jerk! š

Skip is a wonderful guy. However, he had this thing called fatherhood happen to him, which tends to be a time sink. We prevailed upon him to stay in the loop but we hear from him at fairly long intervals. Weāre grateful when we do.

That thread depresses me. Everyone talks about how much greater the board was back then. I donāt see it. Itās the same capricious āIām gonna warn you for something that isnāt in the rules, and Iām just gonna use the jerk rule to claim that Iām right.ā Itās quite clear that he did not intend to be a jerk. He just violated board customs, which is not the same thing.
It all boils down to lack of communication of expectations. You want people not to perform a certain action? You flat out tell them. You donāt just expect it, and you donāt punish them before youāve told them.
Iād love to see a mod try the āItās just a warningā defense today.

I wouldnāt base an assessment of the board on one warning from five years ago. And I donāt think we really need to revisit that warning either.
