**Has somebody created a work of art for you?** Or have you ever received a gift from someone that you didn’t see coming…for example, if you’re a guy, have you ever been given flowers by your girlfriend? Someone very dear to me wrote me a couple of intensely beautiful poems recently…and it got me thinking. I’d never gotten such a gift before, and it killed me softly, for the sheer thought put into it. The skill at work was awesome, and the final products made me feel pretty treasured, and (frankly) a little tearful. How about you? What’s the coolest, most thoughtful thing somebody’s done for you? What has someone done that has brought her/him into your heart? ---

Hi Todd! Well, I usually know about it beforehand, but Sweety is very good at making things for me. He made a beautiful TV/game cabinet with sliding drawers to put the game consoles in. I always get depressed around Christmas (it’s seasonal) and last December, my best friend, who does write very well, wrote a poem for me, about me. That shook me out of depression for a while; it was just so very thoughtful, and such a beautiful thing to do. ---

A friend of mine, someone I’ve had feelings for for ages took a poem I wrote and added music and sang it back to me. It was really moving to me. ---

My wife bought me some original, signed art from one of my favorite cartoonists. She did it for my birthday, and even though it was supposed to be a surprise, I just _knew_ she got it for me. Let me explain (since I’m bored and want to kill time at work) : Every Tuesday, I go to “[www.maakies.com](http://www.maakies.com)” and check out the newest gag. One day, I saw the funniest cartoon I have ever seen. Not that its for everyone, but something about it really struck me. Anyway, a few weeks later I saw that it had been sold, and a little voice said, “QueenBee bought that for you!”. It was a month or so before my birthday. She didn’t drop a hint or anything, but we have a weird “connection” and I just knew she got it. We were driving in the car a few days later and I started chuckling. She asked what I was laughing at, and I said, “Oh, nothing”, and at that moment _I knew she knew that I had figured out she had bought it!!_ Real strange. I normally don’t go for mystic mumbo-jumbo. I guess we really do just belong together. Anyway, the art came in the mail and had a little drawing of Drinky Crow on the envelope with a birthday candle in a bottle of hooch and a personal birthday greeting (to my wife!). Coolest damn thing I’ve gotten! (Mine is the one titled “Stinky Cheese”. Like I say, its not exceptionally funny on the surface, but to me, it really says something) * * * “Being drunk is the best feeling in my poor world.”-- Drinky Crow ---

Former-SO is an extremely talented writer and musician, and while we were together (and actually even _before_ that, now that I think about it), he wrote me a number of poems and songs. They’re probably the most meaningful gifts anyone has ever given me. One gift that I didn’t see coming is the necklace I’m wearing right now – a small silver key made by a jeweller in Newport, RI. My dad gave it to me this past Christmas after I had told him about the loss of another little key and what it symbolized to me (long story that I won’t get into here). My dad is definitely not the shopping type – he usually leaves buying birthday and Christmas gifts up to my mom – so getting this necklace just from him made it even more special. ---

I gave MrVena a painting for our engagement. I had painted a lighthhouse at night with waves, and moonlight, and rocks and such. I told him that he would always be my light at the end of the tunnel. ---

The sainted **mcl** has completely spoilt me in this regard. I have had drawings which sit proudly on my desk and get cooed over daily (and kissed on, if I’m perfectly honest, along with his picture). I’m a poetry slut, I studied poetry for my masters… he writes me a poem, and what’s more, it’s _good_. Really _really_ good, the boy has many talents. He writes me literature and blows me out of the water with it, he’s an incredible writer. I feel quite the muse, it’s wonderful. He made me a charm necklace, it’s beautiful, to keep me safe. I even got a haiku texted to me on my cellphone the other evening, written with care and to show me he’d been thinking of me during his day. I’m spoilt rotten. I love it. ---

No one has ever done that for me, but once, about 10 years ago I wrote a short song for the now ex-wife. I wrote it on the piano, an istrument that I do not know how to play but I figured it out. I don’t even think she cared then, and I’m sure she doesn’t remember it today.
