IT was his shark-jumper for me.

IT? No way…that was a great book!

The ending sucked, as Anaamika nicely has said…but the book was good IMO.

I would gladly read everything Stephen King wrote ten times if it means I get to read his 2000 work “On Writing.” Part auto-biolgraphical, part a guidebook on how to write.

Best King work ever.

I agree with that assessment (except there’s no way I’m going to read _Secret Window_ or _Library Policeman_ 10 times).

I finished reading _Lisy’s Story_ three weeks ago. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out I’m unique in that regard.

\<snip\>When I complain about endings, though, I am chiefly complaining about _It_, which disappointed me profoundly. I loved the book, I loved the flashing back and forth, I loved the style, and then at the end it was a goddamn spider. It was as though he thought “Hell, everyone’s afraid of spiders, aren’t they? Let’s make it a REALLY BIG ONE!” I know that was supposed to be what we saw it as, but hell, Lovecraft made downright terrifying otherworldly monsters and King failed miserably.

I think we should make it a contest for Dopers - re-write good endings for the Stephen King books that lamely fizzled at the end.

Spoiler for _It_ coming up:

To be fair, it was a spider AND a kiddie orgy.

I kid you not, I am way more bothered about the spider. The kiddie sex was not (in my mind anyway) the point of the story, it was simply his way of getting them through the end. The spider was the point and what a blunt rusted point it turned out to be.
