Has the SDMB lost critical mass?

Oh don’t be sorry, it was spectacular to see.

Some speculate that the Dope will eventually fade away, critical mass having been lost, former members spread out so far upon and beyond the Internet that no evidence of a once-united community can be found.

Others, however, speculate that the intense pull of never-ending navel-gazing, the uniting force of worrying about the state of the board now compared to the days before pay-to-post compared to the days on AOL, will grow so powerful that former members will be sucked back in and eventually no one will ever want to look away from their computer screen, let alone visit any other site on the internet.

Which is the way the Dope ends: Unending diffusion or singularity?

Sorry to induce the winces, but I don’t appreciate being called a dick by someone I wasn’t even addressing. I might be a little more tolerant of seeing Liberal heave that particular insult at my head out of left field if this were the first time it happened, but it isn’t. I let the first one pass – the second, not so much.

I can play nice or I can play not nice, and I’ll roll whichever way he chooses. But he’d better climb the fuck down off my back if he expects me to return the favor.

(pssst…apologies aren’t really the expected reaction to applause)

I mean, really, not a lot of people feel too sorry for a guy whose very username was chosen for trolling purposes.

To clarify, I apologize for the winces induced in the peanut gallery, if any. I do not apologize for the response.

JFTR, I didn’t wince. I think it even might have moved a little bit.

FTR, it was the most fun thing I’ve experienced this week that didn’t result in my having to cuddle afterwards.

Liberal, I I will modify my behavior out of consideration of your opinion of my dickishness the day AFTER you stop being a meanspirited self-indulgent nutjob who pukes a super-sized helping of The Batshit Crazies all over the Boards about once every couple of months. Until that day, you can insert your opinion of my thoughts, comments, or behaviors as deep as possible up the closest personal orifice and I’ll let you know when I want you to pull them back out.
This cannot be said enough. If I did sig lines, this would be it. Properly attributed of course.
I just left and don’t post much anymore because I found out that there was a much more interesting world out there when I pulled myself away from the computer screen and looked out the window.
I’d heard rumors of the “more interesting land” but hadn’t found it. Rhode Island— I knew I should have looked there. (Does it have to be a particular kind of window you look out or will any window do?)

If you believe that I am the cause of your behavior, then you’re crazy. Get counseling.

Well played. Cruel though.

Please point out the part where Jodi implies you are the cause of anything you fucking loon. She offered a quid pro quo. Kind of like offering someone $500 to stop posting.

No, actually, that’s not what she said at all.
Perhaps if she typed slower?
I kept it to one word and one syllable for you.

don’t know how you got that out of what you quoted. My interpretation of Jodi’s comment was (boiled down to) “you can chastise about me jaywalking right after you stop robbing banks”.

damn triple simulpost!

Try using some of that Eau de Rational you were attempting to sell earlier.

Actually it is. She has identified a critical component of her personality that she will not modify unless someone else modifies his behavior first. For someone as real as Jodi seems to be, this is willful ignorance.

No judgment implied, but if you choose to be “not nice” because somebody else is acting a certain way, you’re kind of admitting to being a jerk.

You mean the kind of counseling that is not real because nothing is real?

See, I think this is a misinterpretation, see my post #133 above.

You do understand what “cause” means? Choosing to modify your behavior when someone else does something is different from someone else causing your behavior.

And I would also differ with your definition of “jerk.”

Oh, bullshit. I never identified anything about myself, Liberal took it upon himself to do that for me. I sure as hell never conceded that his analysis was in any way correct. How you could possibly construe that as ME having “identified a critical component of [my own] personality” is completely beyond me.

What I was, was a bitch. But since he invited it by his gratuitous swipe at me, I offer no defense or apology for it. Like I said, we’ll roll the way he wants to roll.
