I have shaved every other day for more than 50 years - even in the Army! It’s better for your skin, and I have been told, by some, that I look as much as twenty years younger than I actually am!
Take care of your hair - use baby shampoo, and don’t shampoo it every day. Shave in the shower, using soap. shampoo and shaving cream - no more than three times a week - and stop trying to destroy your skin.
Most people look at your head - take care of it!

About 25 years ago, I switched to the “grow a beard” method for dealing with shaving. Never been sorry about that choice.
I still shave my neck every day (which takes maybe 45 seconds), but AFAICT my neck doesn’t look old.

Ditto, but I don’t shave my neck, I hit it with a clipper every few days, however, my beard is long enough to cover it.
On the other hand, I cut my hair very short and don’t mind it getting a bit of length to it between cuts. That usually allows me to go 2-3 months between cuts. When I go to the barber, I’ll often get an ‘are you sure about that’ when I tell them how short I want it.

I once tried to wax the beard, starting with the labiomental crease (the bit between the lower lip and the chin).
My advice - don’t do it. There is too much hair per square inch. The wax sticks to them all and when you give it the old heave ho! to pull the strip from your face, you might end up like I did; with a detached lower frenulum and a mild case of whiplash.
Not to mention having to soak/peel the wax strip off my face.

This may be the only chance I get to tell this joke.
A woman has a dog with hair that obscures its face and is tired of trimming it all the time. She decides to try a depilatory. She asks the pharmacist for advice and he says, “You can use it full strength on your legs, but cut it 2 to 1 with water for underarms.”
She replies, “I want to put it on my schnauzer.”
“In that case cut it 4 to 1 and don’t ride a bike for several days.”

Yeah, I’m all aboard the “not shaving” train. I don’t even like having to do the minimal maintenance of trimming it and dealing with the neck. I used to shave my neck once a week, but now it’s kinda like…why do I even bother with that? If anyone who’s in a position to dictate how I look speaks up, I’ll shave and trim more often. But I really don’t care myself. I don’t even look at myself in the mirror. It might as well not even be there - I could shave and trim perfectly fine for my own comfort by feel.

I’ve been shaving for 35 years. Not sure why other than, “Because I’ve always done it.” I admit growing a beard would be better, as it would protect my face, primarily from the damaging effects of UV rays.
If you want nice-looking skin,
- Don’t smoke.
- Stay out of the sun.
- Don’t drink alcohol.
- Adopt a healthy diet that includes plenty of leafy greens.

Great advice!
My brother is cursed with an iron beard, and no method was comfortable because his beard is so hard to soften. He started using the “shaving in the shower” method and found that the elevated temperature and all the steam did the trick of softening his beard and making the overall process more efficient and less irritating.

I’ve had a beard since my late teens, though I still shave around the periphery.
Since I’ve passed threescore years, though, I wish there were a way to permanently eliminate nose and ear hair-- the latter both within the ear canal, and sprouting like kudzu on the ear itself. I don’t care if they’re Nature’s Filters; they’re disgusting. But I expect that the same obstacles apply.
To end on an even more off-topic tangent: facial orifice-hair may be indefatigable, but I sure wish there were a magic method for keeping one’s facial pores-- especially on and around the nose-- from filling up with little greyish micro-fatbergs.

I have that perpetual 5 o’clock shadow, and have been doing so for about 3 years now. Clippers to the skin on Sunday night, and it looks presentable all week.
When I’m on vacation, I don’t even do the Sunday night. It looks really bad after two or three weeks.

Not that I recommend it, but there is are cosmetic preparations containing Retin-A, used to “fight wrinkles” (apparently with some minor/unnoticeable success). Retin-A is the same topical preparation used to fight acne: not by “drying out the skin” like clay, not by killing the infection like antibiotics, but according to some stuff I’ve read, by disrupting the production of micro-fatburgs in your pores.

I wish! I have thick dark beard hairs and even when I shave it looks like I have a five o clock shadow.
