And if I had to listen to that sung 6 times a day, it would drive me just as batty as having to hear the Hula Hoop by the Alvin and the Chipmunks or the Muppet version of 12 Days of Christmas. At least these days, I happen to have a good deal of control over the music at my store and (generally without telling anyone) quietly block the songs that irritate me. ---

There are very few songs I want to hear more than 500 times. None of them happen to be Christmas songs. ---

In most retail situations the current Christmas music stock is devoid of hymns. I challenge you to ever find even “Silent Night” amongst the awful pop Christmas music played. This holds true for most Christmas radio except for the Christian stations, which often make you suffer through platitudes and sermonizing and all that unpleasantness when you just want to hear a nice choir sing “Joy to the World”. “The Little Drummer Boy” is a fine Christmas song BTW. ---

It’s a little known tradition that just as it is in bad taste to still have your Xmas decorations up after the 12th day, it’s also considered gauche to continue to express your hate for Xmas music after that date. You need to save up the hate, ready to express it afresh in December 2026. ---

I was surprised to be serenaded with non-stop Christmas music at dinner two nights ago on the 10th. The restaurant was Argentinian and the music was all instrumental Latinized versions I’d never heard before of mostly familiar tunes. So a classy sort of Xmas, but XMas nevertheless. That was definitely my least favorite aspect of an otherwise wonderful meal.
