I called Weirddave a name in a thread. He sent me an ICQ asking what that name meant, and it went from there. We met in person November 2001, and we were married July 27/02. ---

**RickQ** and I met in a flirting thread (oddly enough, titled A Thread For People Who Don’t Get Flirted With) and started ICQing shortly after. Within weeks we knew we wanted to meet and a few months later I was flying to England. We got engaged about a year later and married 6 months after that. Last month we celebrated our one year anniversary. I haven’t kept up, but I think at least 10 couples have met on the dope and are married or in a committed relationship. It is quite the meat market. 🙂 ---

I met **auntie em** in a BBQ Pit thread she started, where she was eloquently discussing the depression one faces when the bottom falls out of those hoax-ish, spam-gathering “Someone has a crush on you–guess who it is!” e-mails. The word “fuck” was used a lot. I misunderstood her profile’s location (I thought “Oz” was typed in because she was a fan of the books; turns out that she just lives in Kansas), and so was immediately smitten by her [faux] literary background. So smitten, in fact, that I dueled **Homebrew** for her affections (he won) and managed to set up a Dopefest just to meet her. Despite **Homebrew** ’s joyous victory, I still ended up with **auntie em** because: 1.) I lived closer; 2.) **Homebrew** , although obviously more successful with the women-folk, doesn’t swing that way; and 3.) Satan gave me magical powers. **galen ubal** and I did (technically) meet on the SDMB, since our first contact was a White Elephant where he was my victim. However, nothing came of that - we didn’t start to talk or anything. That happened on the UnaBoard. Regardless, since here was our first contact, maybe the SDMB - or whoever it was that ran that White Elephant - can claim a _little_ bit of the credit. ---

If you put enough sexually frustrated, celibate losers together, a few of them are going to end up mating. It’s inevitable, it’s a numbers game. (Incidentally, that’s why the member testimonials published on dating sites mean practically nothing.) ---
