Personally, I find LSD works way better than MJ for heightened music enjoyment. A couple years ago I was at a They Might Be Giants concert, and the band stopped in the middle of a song to ask the guy in the front row to stop smoking his shit. ---

In the remote past, I used to smoke perfectly cylindrical, filtered joints saturated in black oil during intermissions at the VSO (where I held season’s tickets.) (I thought that this was discreet; I guess I was high.) Anyway, as unreasonably stoned as I got at the VSO, I could still make idle chit-chat with other concert-goers. LSD was reserved for art-house cinema. No attempt at conversation was made at the theatre, or even in the cab on the way home. Yeeeesh. ---

I was at lots of them that dope was everywhere. When you went to the can ,there was someone asking if you wanted speed, acid or mesc. You could get anything you wanted. But that was in the 60s and 70s. ---

I asked my husband about this since he’s been to literally hundreds of concerts, mostly hard rock/metal. The only show he can recall where he didn’t smell or see pot was at a Stryper show. That made me laugh 😉 ---

All my concerts were in the 70’s and 80’s, but I don’t think there was one where pot wasn’t abundant. ---

Ever since she got kicked out (partially because she felt the need to move on to more addictive and life-ruining drugs), my resources have been dry. I remember when I saw Tom Petty with my parents in 1995, and my dad was complaining about all the people smoking pot around us, and my mom just replied with “I think there’s more pot being smoked on stage than in the audience” ---

Almost every concert I’ve been to in an outdoor ampheteater or arena, I could see or smell marajuana. At several of them completely, but very friendly strangers offered to share. I’ve only noticed it at one or two indoor concerts, largely because smoking of any kind is not allowed any more. ---

The year was 1984 I was 12 years old. My friend, Jessica, came down to spend the summer with her father and step-mother who were neighbors of ours and good friends with my parents. I had know Jess for a few summers and we were the same age. She was on a big “Monkeys” kick then and got me hooked on the band. They were doing one of their many “Reunion” tours that summer (one of the one without the guy with the hat). She talked my mother and her step mother into driving the 2 of us and my 10 year old brother into the Manhattan to see this show (At Pier 68…between the INtrepied and the Circle Line Tours…It has since sunk into the river). They let us go to the show alone and picked us up when it was done. At first we had no idea on what the weird smell was, until we saw what kind of “cigarettes” were being smoked… Oddly, when the concert was over , we were all very hungry! To this day I tease my mother about letting her 12 and 10 year old get a contact high at a concert. ---

I used to do volunteer ushering for shows promoted by “Bill Graham Presents” in the San Francisco Bay Area. Each time I worked a reggae-related show, you can smell pot smoking even before the concert began. Interestingly, many of these shows were at UC Berkeley’s Greek Theater. ---

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a show when I didn’t see it or smell it, if not smoke it myself. The most memorable occasion was a Black Crows concert. They did an opening song and then the singer informed us that the Black Crows always bring their own private security staff. Therefore, there were no cops in the building, so if we wanted to light up, we were told it was cool to do so. That’s about the most open, blatant pot smoking I’ve ever witnessed/participated in at a show. Great show, btw. :: nods :: I’m off to Lollapalooza next week, so I’ll return and report if I _don’t_ see any weed in Grant Park. 😃 ---

One that sticks in my mind was in ChristianasBorg (I believe) an area of Copenahgen scheduled to be redeveloped and thus derelict, but taken over by Hippies and Anarchists and declared an independant, police free, state. This would have been about thirty odd years ago. I can’t remember the names of the bands because they weren’t very memorable. Had a very good night though.
