Have you attended a concert where marijuana was being smoked openly?

I’ve been to concerts where the *band *openly smoked pot that had been passed up from the audience (Uriah Heep, Winterland, mid-70s, for example).

As someone who smoked pot with hundreds of people before giving it up in 1985, I would have to say that if getting high on weed did not enhance the experience of listening to music for you, you are certainly in the tiniest of minorities.
Not looking to start an argument but honestly, enhancement of the musical experience is universal among anyone I ever knew that smoked pot.

I think I’ve been to more Classical concerts where people were getting stoned than Jazz or Rock concerts where people weren’t getting stoned. The big difference is that the Classical stoners tend to get high outside the venue and then go in…

I would say most of the concerts I’ve attended have had it. This includes outdoor venues, and bars, where smoking is prohibited (as previously mentioned). Strangely enough I never went to concerts until after college. The first one I attended was about a year after I was out of college, and it took a while to figure out what that smell was.

All different genres, and there has been plenty of marijuana use. It isn’t done “openly”, so much as you notice the smell, or see smoke go up from the crowd. This includes shows by Passion Pit, Arcade Fire, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Of Montreal, and Phoenix. (I didn’t notice any at Camera Obscura.) Probably the funniest thing to happen was at a Modest Mouse show. They were playing a sold out show at a theater, and it was very crowded even before start, and plenty of people were already smoking. One of the roadies made an announcement along the lines of “Uh, this is a, uh, non-smoking venue, so they just wanted me to remind everyone not to smoke.” This was met be a combination of laughter and boos, and then defiant plumes of smoke going up from the crowd.

I always notice at least somewhat of a police presence (at least an officer or two) at the shows, but I’ve never noticed them taking any action or trying to find any culprits.

Back in the day, at Market Square arena, as soon as the lights went down for the first act, one could see thousands of orange stars moving to the left and right clear up to the rafters. There were actual cloud formations of pot smoke near the ceiling and a general smog everywhere when the lights came back up. Back in the day being '77 - '83.

Excuse me? Who exactly was I personally insulting? Did I say, “River Hippie, you get high, you childish loser?” Nope, don’t think so. It was merely a general statement of an opinion, not directed at anyone in particular, the very same kind that gets written on here all the time. Hell, I didn’t even hijack the thread: that’s a debate for another thread.

I choose to ignore your warning.

No, but I would consider it to be close to poisoning the well. If the OP had called pot smokers childish losers, I wouldn’t have participated in this thread.

I saw George Clinton, performing in Amsterdam, at the final day of the Cannabis Cup.

Well, I say I “saw” him, but what I actually saw was an enormous cloud of smoke that emitted the songs of Parliament Funkadelic. I presume George was somewhere in the vicinity of the stage at the time.

I find it funny that you, who apparently was a “childish loser” at some point, chose to cast stones at those who reap the very benefits you’re ignorant of.

Good Lord, when I was in college in the 1970s everytime the lights went off for a concert or film, the joints came out. The one venue where security was tight against it was the Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ.

Last time I went to see a concert on campus was for Tori Amos in the mid 1990s. I was shocked (and pleasantly surprised) there was no smoking of any kind. As the National Lampoon “Radio Dinner” album said “If dope smoking doesn’t damage the brain, then how come so many teeny boppers think Cheech and Chong are funny”?

Been there, done that.

Dude. You’re killing the buzz in here.

Insulting numerous people – i.e., about half the people participating in the thread – doesn’t make it not an insult.

Think what you like, but if you post such insults in the future you will get a Warning, and not just a request to knock it off.

Seems to me that the basic difference between concerts now, and of days gone by is that the chosen enhancements are swallowed, not smoked.

All of the concerts I’ve been too. The bigest Dopefest i’ve been to was Black Sabbath in Montreal about a decade ago. There was around 100 cops lined up out side the main doors to get into the venue and as soon as you open the doors, bam you could smell the sweat leaf.

I was also impressed with the police there. There was a small store with a parking lot near the venue 100’s of people were buying beers and openly drinking them in the parking lot to avoid the 10$ beer at the venue. The cops just kept on circling the block just letting us know they were there.
Montreal great city to party in.

You better throw out about 80% of your music collection then. Hate to break it to you those losers were probably high when they wrote the music you enjoy.

Hehe, I was going to post my Pink Floyd in Amsterdam anecdote, but no, you win. :stuck_out_tongue:

1979–where I first smelled the Evil Weed.

Thank goodness for indoor smoking bans…or maybe it’s just the over 50 crowd I’m seeing at most of the concerts I’ve been to lately…

I’ve never been to a concert. If I was to go to one, and maybe some day I’ll get around to it, I most definitely will get high.

I took acid at a Pink Floyd laser show. When I saw Roger Waters the guy behind us offered us his pipe. My friend and I both took two hits and handed it back to him, commented to each other that it tasted odd. Hours later when the show ended we were both still high.

Other then that, lots of pot at all the shows I’ve been to. Tom Petty, Black Crowes, DMB, Marilyn Manson, Allman Brothers with Phil Lesh and the list goes on and on.
