My Dad did a variation on that years ago. Cop lit him up on the interstate, so Dad took the next exit, hightailed it to the nearest gas station, screeched to a halt, and ran into the bathroom as the cop pulled up. When he came back out, the cop let him off. ---

One time my brother was driving us someplace on a rural road, when a cop passed us in the other direction and my brother freaked out. He turned down a side road and then drove into somebody’s backyard and parked behind a stranger’s house for 15 minutes. I have no idea why he was trying to evade the police. When I told this story to his new wife, he freaked out, denied it ever happened, and kept yelling at me to shut up. I guess he wanted her to only know good stories from his past. ---

We were riding in a, um, sporting fashion when we were met by a cop coming in the other direction (in a car). In our mirrors we saw the cop hit his brakes hard for a bit before realizing there was no good place for him to safely turn around to pursue us; anywhere he might have picked would have had a blind curve for traffic to come around and suddenly encounter him blocking one or both lanes. We would have stopped if he had come up behind us, but since he gave up, my friend and I continued apace. ---

This isn’t a story of successfully evading since the cop radio caught us. We were on a similar group motorcycle ride (5 of us) on a very remote, twisty county highway. We were riding, very spirited, for quite a while. We came to an open stretch and there was a cop car with flashing lights waiting for us. We all pull over and county sheriff comes up and asks us if we were missing anyone. Sure enough, the slow guy was missing. Apparently a cop did try to stop us but the slow guy was a bit back and pulled over as we kept going. As we were talking with the cop, the lagging friend and other cop car pulled up. They gave us a stern talking to, mainly about deer, told us to slow down, and then left. It probably didn’t hurt that most of us had gray hair and we were riding supermoto style bikes that look like dual-sports/dirt bikes and not sport bikes… 😆 ---

Hell, I successfully evaded an army soldier guarding a portion of a fenced stretch of an eastern European country (think Cyrillic alphabet) when I “accidentally” took one or two steps beyond the striped pole marking the border. However, the soldier _did_ contact the Border Patrol of the country I returned to after my brief incursion, and two of those guards pulled up in their SUV and detained me for questioning for almost two hours. Like Gatopescado, however, I’m not going to give any more details, out of an overabundance of caution.
