I have never smelled a rotten egg to my knowledge, but I have smelled rotten beef and rice, that had been in the fridge for lord knows how long, and sealed in tupperwear. I opened it up, it looked fine, so I took a big whiff and almost immediately threw up. It was one of the most unimaginably bad smells I think I could ever imagine if it were imaginable. It was overpowering in a way that made me feel sick, and also very scared like my body was saying, “get away now!!!” I suppose that’s probably what a ripe rotten egg smells like. ---

Having been a part owner of a gas meter repair shop and having smelled one rotten egg in my life, I can authoritatively say: You can get used to mercaptan and not even notice it after a bit… you will never, ever, get used to a rotten egg. ---

No but I think deviled eggs smell similar. And people’s farts after they eat eggs. ---

How odd. I had assumed that at one point or another every kid arranged to hide a carton of eggs for later use in junior biological warfare. ---

I live with 6 not-terribly-conscientious people. We have a lot of weird things in the refrigerator. Sometimes these include eggs that were in a dumpster at one time in their lives.
