No. I mean, I’ve been approached plenty by strange creepy men, but no one every thought I was a prostitute. I’ve always had a very baby face, though, so they were more predatory and less willing to pay. ---

As to the topic of this thread, I am amazed and appalled that this seems to be such a common experience among women. I mean, I know that women getting unwanted advances from creepy guys is a sadly common thing, but to have someone assume you’re for rent!? Gol dang it, that’s all messed up. Bricker, how did your wife feel about the whole experience? Was it upsetting to her, or more of a “well, that was weird” sort of thing? ---

I don’t think if I’ve been confused with one before, but certainly where I currently live I have, albeit indirectly. Latinamerican women (here called “Spanish women”) are stereotypically two things: nurses (Cubans) or escort/prostitutes/strip dancers (especially if they have what they think of as “nice figure”). So I’m sure some of the catcalling I’ve received is because of the thought that I’m also a prostitute(even if they think I’m not currently “at work”). I have also been in situations where I’m sure others thought I was “working”, but I was just dating my (local) boyfriend (especially when we started out). Not only have I thought that, but was told that it was most likely the case from my boyfriend and his friends (they told me). My bf, of course, dislikes that. I was also sort of indirectly propositioned once, when bf and I went to a seedy bar (he knew the owners and wanted to use the parking space). The guy in charge at the time asked him about me, and when he said I was “Spanish woman”, the guy asked me if I wanted an extra job as a “bartender”. My boyfriend quickly cut the talk and said I was “not that type”. It does anger me that that is the stereotype, but again, I live in a very conservative place and it will take a while to change this outlook. Also, there IS the real news of human trafficking from neighboring Venezuela. ---

Yes When I lived in the city. The neighborhood I lived in had been taken over by drug dealers. Then the hookers had moved from the next neighborhood over (too much heat from the cops) to our neighborhood, however they never made it up as far as where I lived. However, dumb ass men thought anybody standing outside was a hooker. My friend, who was 8 months pregnant at the time, was standing outside holding her little boy’s hand when some guy rolled up and asked her, ‘How much?’. Her bf heard the exchange and came running out swinging a baseball bat, furious that some jerk had suggested that his woman was a hooker. A few days later I was standing outside and one rolled up on me. I think I scared him. ---

Decades ago girlfriend (still memories) was very attractive; traveled for business a lot; dressed business-feminine all the time (heels, dress, suit); liked to visit famous hotels, resorts, bars for her bucket list. More that a few times, the manager would come over and ask her to leave. Solo well dressed woman obviously looking to pick up a man - besmirch the reputation of the establishment. She’d explain she was in the area for real business purposes but she’d still be asked to leave after finishing her drink. Hey I’d ask her for date/dinner myself. She had the looks, walk, attitude, fashion, natural sex appeal. That’s how we got started as a couple for a few years. ---
