I saw it at the multiplex at the local mall.
A few weeks later, I was driving past the mall on my way to work, and noticed that it was still being screened. But whoever was tasked with updating the marquee out on Hawthorne Blvd. was obviously on his last day, because they had changed it to read “LOGAN’S SHIT.”
Wow, hadn’t thought of this movie in decades. (Yes, I saw it in its original release, watched the tv show, and read at least two of the books. Unlike all you guys who mentioned Jenny Agutter, in me it sparked a long-lasting interest in Michael York.
)
Anyway, out of curiosity I searched on Netflix and the original movie is available, so I rewatched it. I’d forgotten it ends with a ‘computer cannot cope with the contradictions of humans’ and self-destructs as magnificently as any of the AIs that were done in by Captain Kirk.
I didn’t know it was a movie. I’ve seen bits of the TV show, and always changed channel within a minute or two. I guess the movie was good enough to justify a TV spinoff: IMHO the TV show was not good enough to justify watching.
