I just re-watched this wonderful movie (partially on account of this thread) and never realized something. _Airplane!_ is rated PG. How on Cthulhu’s blighted earth did this happen? Sure, they didn’t have PG-13 when it was released, but I always assumed it was R, for some reason… ---

At least half the jokes have been replaced with less-funny (but less risqué) ones. The little girl no longer likes her coffee like she likes her men, for example (I can’t recall what the substitute joke is). But of course you’re right that the familiar version, boobs and all, is rated PG. I share your surprise! ---

A little research revealed that bare boobs did not get you an automatic R rating. If they were shown in a non-sexual context you could still get a PG. I distinctly remember seeing bare boobs a few years later, _in_ a sexual context, in _National Lampoon’s European Vacation_, one of the first films to get the PG-13, and I remember being surprised by _that_. ---
