# Have you ever seen an interesting bundle on the side of the road? (Or...what have you found on the side of the road?)

Oh ..I find money all the time.
Well, I used to. No one carries cash anymore.
The last money I found, I was walking thru a Dollar tree. I found a $10.
I stuck it in my pocket and giggled, thinking..wow, this really _ **is** _ a Dollar tree!
When I walked out of the store there was a middle aged kid, breathlessly telling his grandma he lost his money. I handed the $10 to him. He was so happy. I floated around for a day or two on that good fortune.
I can’t say I find money driving down the road, though.

Wife and I were headed to a hiking spot in the mountains. I pulled over to relieve myself and a tiny kitten walked out of the underbrush. Then another, and another until there were 7 in all. Being Sunday we had trouble finding an open shelter but eventually did. There was a beautiful brown one that was adopted out before we left the place.
Didn’t get to go hiking that day.

Where I used to live in Bristol people would just leave random unwanted items on the wall at the edge of the property. Sometimes very random items. I got quite a few books that way and lots of gardening equipment, but I think the oddest item I found was a brain-shaped jelly mould. Especially odd as I had just that week talked my housemate out of _buying_ a brain-shaped jelly mould she’d found online, on the grounds that she’d never use it.
Want to hazard a guess if she ever used the one I found?
It eventually got passed on to a later housemate who was a singer in a death metal band, who used it to make stage props.

I own a Jeep which provides the opportunity to do lots of walking down the side of the road. I’ve found countless tools, mostly wrenches and sockets. They are almost always 9/16.
I find all sorts of cool stuff in the desert, too. I got a Barbie’s head that acts as a weathervane on the Jeep antenna. It’s suprisingly accurate.

A single shoe, or a single glove. I don’t know if gloves are also always the left variant, but I wouldn’t count it out.

A haulage company, specialising in chilled work, I used to work for had a problem with what looked like theft. It mostly happened on high-value meat products like steaks. The drivers denied any involvement and blamed the warehouse or the customer, so an investigation was started.
It turned out that the drivers would pull up in a layby, not far away from base, put the meat in a plastic bin bag and hide it in a hedge. There is little or no chance that anyone would go near a bin bag in a hedge, so they could return in their own car later and collect it. No doubt several pubs were happy to buy cheap steaks.

Many years ago we lived in a street with houses on just one side; the other side was bushes adjoining a wooden fence. One day I saw a 'bundle in the bushes, and it turned out to be a little Kawasaki mini-bike covered with a blanket.
Took it to the cop-shop, three months later it hadn’t been claimed so we were now the proud owners of a mini-bike…but had nowhere to ride it.
So it was sold for about $200 IIRC.

My family dog when we were growing up was one of a litter that one of my dad’s co-workers found in a ditch. We had him for 16 years.
When I was about 12 years old, we went on a father/daughter camping trip with the Girl Scouts, and on the way back from a hike, we saw what looked to us kids like a pile of junk. Dad and the other men recognized it as something that warranted a call to the police, and sure enough, the items turned out to be something that was stolen.

Secateur = garden shears. Just learned that word right now.
Also just remembered that when I was in college the first time, my roommate and I were walking back from IIRC the grocery store, and she saw something in aluminum foil in the snow, which was pretty deep at that point. It was a piece of hashish about the size of a large marble, something I had no use for but she did, so she pocketed it. I found out a while back that she died in 2018. RIP.

Weird, almost the exact same thing happened to me. Except I noticed that the cap was missing at home not while driving, and I didn’t bother to go looking for it, since it had probably been a couple of days since I lost it and in that time I’d driven too many places to go searching for it. But the next day I went for a bike ride, and about a mile from my house I saw an oil cap lying on the side of the road. Sure enough, it was mine, or close enough to fit.

While driving my sister saw a nice looking backpack sitting on the road. So she stops to check it out, imagining all the things which could be inside. A cash drop gone wrong? Weed? A laptop?
Nope, vomit. She opened it up and it was full of vomit.

I passed a kitten, settling down into a loaf, on the median of Interstate 5. I was past it before it dawned on me that kittens don’t belong there, and I exited and went around to pick him up.
He turned out to have a compound fracture of one femur and a broken hip. He healed pretty well, though, and one of my sons gave him a home. Apparently some vets say that as long as both ends of a cat’s bone are in the same room, they’ll heal.
