That’s exactly it. The very thing I saw in the sky over Juneau. The more I think about it, it has to have been the March of 1989 peak mentioned by Finagle in the thread Gassendi linked to. It was hella cool.
Really? Here in Stockholm, I’m out late every night (walking my dog), and I’m always skygazing. I haven’t seen one yet.
Once I thought I saw it, but it turned out to be ice pillars, from an ice fog in -25 C cold air. But, no aurora yet. And I’m disappointed.
Me, too. And this was in the Twin Cities during an outdoor concert in the late 60’s. The band was playing from an old riverboat, and the concert goers were seated on the shore. It was pretty late when the last band came on. I was laying on my back when I noticed the odd skies, but I figured that it was due to my altered perception. Then, the band stopped playing for a minute and told everyone to look up. Many oohs and aahhhs. Some say it was caused by the smoke from all of the fragrant herbiage floating up, but even the straight people saw it.
I’ve seen then a few more times while camping in northern Minnesota. The red ones are my favorite.
