Have you had shingles, or gotten the shingles vaccination?

That’s standard for disseminated herpes zoster, meaning they saw or suspected some viral action beyond the normal lession boundaries. Shingles: Preventing VZV in Healthcare Settings | CDC Not commonly done for “just” shingles.

I was also in isolation when I had shingles. It was nice because I had no roommate, but it was a pain when I could hear the meal cart and wouldn’t get my food because they didn’t want to gown up. I’d wait for a while and then buzz and ask if it was dinner time.

And once or twice when it was time for some meds I remember them opening the door and tossing them.

So tell me, how did that work out? We’re you ignored or were you served another dish of double speak?

My elderly mother got the vaccine in… 2011? I forget. Anyway, she’d never had shingles before. Then just a month ago she got shingles.

Under 60, not yet vaxed, with good health insurance that will pay for it in a few years, and considering paying for it NOW.

Mom and dad had shingles, and I do not want. I’ve been broken and beat up plenty, but I’ve always (with a bit of chemistry) been able to sleep a little. With shingles, mom and dad didn’t sleep for days. They said things hurt more, but not as long.

I can withstand pain if I think it might end some day, and maybe with some better drugs than I’ve ever had. But if a shot will stop it, you’d be a fool to pass it up. As noted, in a coupla years, I can get a shot for free. But with 2 years to go… damn, I dunno. I’ll bet on the turn of a card, but betting on pain (and on my pain in particular), makes me reconsider the odds.

Some people, my father for instance, didn’t get much pain with shingles. Don’t, if you are one of those, denigrate those who do have severe debilitating 10/10 involvement. My dad also got his teeth drilled with no local anesthetic. He too thought everyone was a shiner or a wuss. He also got diagnosed with Asperger’s when he was 83…just wired differently.

“Looks like my time is up sorry!”
