Weren’t the Rivingtons first with The Bird’s The Word? I’m hoary enough with age to remember buying their Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow when it first came out, followed, unless I’m mistaken, by Mama-Oom-Mow-Mow. Ah, they just don’t write’em like that any more! ---

I think the thing that made me think of beach songs was the drums. The drumming in that song is typical of what I think of when I think of 60’s-era beach or surf related songs. P.S. - And now that I think about it, the lyric “Surfin’ (Surfer?) Bird” might have a little to do with that impression too. 🙂 ---
