Have you heard of a plan to move San Diego, California to Alaska or this just a rumor?

I hid under plenty of desks in my time. You think the Russians didn’t have enough missiles for both San Diego (with significant defense plants) and a moved Navy Base? How likely you think a war is, anyway? You seem to have missed the fall of Communism.

More likely they’ll just give Orange County and South to Alaska. It would improve their average temperature a lot, and they could move their capital to someplace you can actually drive to.

I think we should swap the population of California and Australia.

Yeah, Saskatchewanians still feel bad about that. We were all down at the rink for an all-night bonspiel, and the rye was flowing, and we just didn’t notice those pesky commies sneaking through until it was too late.

Still, my buddies and I won the “C” side consolation prize, so it wasn’t a total loss.

I didn’t miss the fall of the wall in Berlin I think that was 24 years ago
and I didn’t miss the increase in submarines being produced by Russia/China
the kind of nuclear submarines that carry missile’s tipped with nuclear war heads
that can go 3,500 miles.

Take a look at this map at all of the red dots and then see with the aid of understanding and discernment which ones would be targets if they didn’t
have any target value? (not that you can trust fema)
(but at least they tried to tell us he truth)

Your maps show no red dots for LA or San Diego…

I haven’t missed the fact that you haven’t shown us that you didn’t make this supposed “rumor” up.

I grew up in the 50s too. Moving the base from San Diego to Alaska wouldn’t have made sense then, and would make even less now.

What makes you think that any potential enemy would target only military bases? San Diego could be a target just because of the size of its population, irrespective of any military value.

Seriously, I think it’s totally made up just for this thread!

I’d take that back, of course, if I saw a cite! I’m not holding my breath though. I’m pretty sure this is ,‘all in his head’ kinda of rumour. Votive in my head, type of rumour.

When they leave will they go out that channel blasted through the Silver Strand?

Here is the answer, Mr Quatro:

Nobody here has heard of this plan, and nobody has heard of this “rumor” that you are trying to start.

…and seem to be persisting with despite several different approaches to showing you it is a nonsensical idea.

Shit. The OP’s right. I googled it, and there is some discussion already on the net.

A standard answer is that those who are known to be ready to strike back are those who least need to fear a first strike.

Leo, I clicked your link.
Subtle, you are.

If you had ever been to Anchorage you would know that is is totally unnecessary. Coals to Newcastle.

Patrons of PJ’s, REPRESENT!

If they move my hometown to Alaska, I’ll have to find a new hometown. Boogieboarding on the Cook Inlet doesn’t appeal to me at all!

Well, let’s see: since that lunatic Edward Teller’s plan to use nuclear bombs to create a harbor on the west coast of Alaska (Project Chariot) was soundly rejected, there is no port north of Anchorage that could be used for a naval fleet. In fact, Port of Anchorage is not ice-free year round, or at least not reliably so, so scratch that as a location also.

There is nothing south of Anchorage, either southwest or southeast that is suitable for a fleet-sized force to use as a home port. Now, anything is possible to build if you throw enough money at it, but we would likely be talking about hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of dollars. Neither Southeast or Southwest Alaska is accessible by road, which means that all supplies would have to be barged in or flown in. A city would have to be built to house shore-based sailors and civilian DOD employees, school their children, etc.

The entire notion is idiotic in the extreme; I believe I can say without reservation that the idea has never been discussed by anyone ever, other than the OP or some truly delusional people.

Blondebear: check out videos of people kite-boarding in Turnagain Arm, one of the more treacherous stretches of water around.

Per Google, that would be us. Yea!

I am fairly certain that our secret reptilian overlords have already implemented the first phase of the plan. I just heard from Director Fury that gigantic robot drones with fusion particle emitters are detaching San Diego from its current position even as I type this missive. Using anti-gravity beams to levitate the entire city and the several hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of land that the city is currently using as its… um… ground, the entire process is remarkably simple. Mushroom, Alaska, final destination.

Obviously, there must be some reason for this, but who am I to question Nick Fury, S.H.I.E.L.D., and our highly respected reptilian overlords (long may they secretly reign)?

I wonder if anyone alerted the populace.
Anyone seen anything on CNN or Fox about this?
Seems likes we would have by now.

Meh.

Oh, well. It’s those people ‘over there’ on the left coast. I really don’t care that much anymore.

Hey, anyone need a drink?
I’m up. I’ll get it.
