I have. My mother, father and sister will probably live their entire lives in Louisville, Ky., and that seems to be just fine for them. Me, I caught the wanderlust. Of course, five cities in three states in my 28 years might be less peripatetic than some people on the SDMB, but it’s not exactly sluglike, either. Sometimes I feel a little rootless, but had I stayed in Kentucky my whole life, I think I would have ended up unfulfilled. ---

Considering that I’m only 19, I pretty much just go where ever my family goes - which hasn’t been very far. We lived in the same 2 bedroom apartment for 15 years. We then decided to move. We packed everything up and got out entire family and what seemed to be the greater part of the neighborhood to help us carry it all. We then moved. Upstairs. My mother’s rationale was that it would get my asthmatic sister away from the car fumes that came in through our basement level window and would force us to sort through all our junk that had accumulated through the years. It’s now four years later and we have 5 cockatiels and 6 parakeets to replace the car fumes and 3 times as much junk as before. Go figure. ---

Yup, but mostly when I was younger. I was born in Greenville, SC, lived in an apartment. Moved a few months later to Mauldin, SC. Moved a few years later to Atlanta, GA. Moved to Columbia, SC at age 6. So far I’ve been lucky to only move since then from an apartment to house, and will hopefully finish high school here. I know that when **Shogun Haircut** remembers things and people, he remembers them in sequence of the cities he’s lived in. He’s moved around a lot. Messed him up a lot, too. (Sorry hun, but you’ve said it yourself.) ---

Moved a lot? Maybe alittle. Here’s a list from Kindergarten through High School just counting stays of 6 months or more: 1. North Bend, OR (1/2 kindergarten) 2. Coos Bay, OR (right next to North Bend) 3. Eureka, CA (kindergarten) 4. Charleston, OR (1/2 1st grade) 5. Rapid City, SD (1st grade) (outside of town near Reptile Gardens) 6. Rapid City, SD (2nd grade) (in town) 7. Mandan, ND (3rd grade) 8. Box Elder, SD (1/2 of 4th grade) 9. Gillette, WY (4-6th grade) 10. Cody, WY (1/2 of 7th grade) 11. Coos Bay, OR (7th grade) 12. Cody, WY (8th grade) 13. Gillette, WY (9-12th grade - longest time in 1 location) There are a few more moves scattered in amongst all of that, but that was just mostly for a summer stay. As an adult I tend to move about every 1-1/2 to 2 years. ---

It’s always hard to leave good friends behind, but I’ve managed to keep in contact and visit with most through the years. ---

i have in fact moved a lot im just finished tenth and it was the first time i’ve finished whole school year at one school since 7th. 1. born NYC 2. moved inside of NYC(dont remeber) 3. moved to apartment in atlanta GA(on 5th birthday) 4. moved to house in lawrenceville GA 5. moved to greenville SC(halfway through 8th grade) 6. moved to columbia SC(halfway through 9th grade) 7. heading out to boarding school for 11th and 12th grades as far as screwing me up, i would describe it more as adding flavour, or maybe just teaching me that others opinions shouldnt be all that strongly tied to your opinon of yourself, and that ur reputation and personality are completely changeable. moving isnt the reason im screwed up, my sister, my x, and debate team are the reasons im “screwed up”, and yes u **Searching** had a hand in the whole screwing up of me, even if it wasnt a huge one for the most part your influence has been pretty positive. ---

I’ve moved a bit: Born Memphis TN Mt Pleasant IA (K thru 4th grade) Kellerton IA (5th thru 9th) Fairfield IA (10th & 11th) St. Joseph MO (graduated HS) Rolla MO (UMR) Rogers AR (4 months with the folks looking for a job) Omaha NE (job 1) Wichita KS (job 2) Houston TX (job 3) Then a big move to Ash, Surrey, UK (job 3 continued) Farnborough, Hampshire, UK Ash again Sandhurst, Berkshire, UK Frimley, Surrey, UK As a kid we always moved during the summer so school years never got messed up. I did see a huge difference in the quality of the schools even within the same state. I’ve had 6 different US drivers licences and 1 in the UK. ---

The longest I have lived at a single address is 7 years (I don’t kind my first two years of college, when I lived in the dorms, as a permanent address). At the age of 31, I have lived in (this does not include frequent short periods in Ohio in between dad’s duty assignments): Ware, MA (1969-72) Gila Bend, AZ (1972-74) Ft. Lee, VA (1974-76) Darmstadt, Germany (1976-79) Ft. Moved a lot? Yeah. At least 22 times in 37 years, counting only once for moving into and out of dorms during college. That’s counting each time I’ve changed my primary place of residence, including: Augusta, AR (2 different houses, 2 yrs total) Des Arc, AR (1 house, 2 yrs) Clarendon, AR (3 different houses, 7 yrs total) Jasper, AR (2 different houses in a little over 6 months) Harrison, AR (1 house, 7 months) Fayetteville, AR (1 house, 5 yrs) Harrisburg, AR (1 house, 4 yrs) Bentonville, AR (1 house, 1.5 yrs) Bella Vista, AR (1 house, 6 months) Rogers, AR (1 house, and my parents are still there 15 years later; a more paranoid person would read something into the fact that once I was out of college, they stopped moving around) –each of the previous involved my whole family Conway, AR (college dorms; counting only once in my total number of moves, 4 yrs total) Little Rock, AR (1 house, 3 months) Atlanta, GA (5 apartments, 8 yrs total) Chamblee, GA (1 apartment, 1.5 yrs) Tucker, GA (current house, nearly 5 yrs so far) It seems like we just moved into the house we bought in 1996, but it’s been nearly five years. Wow! A lot of you have moved around alot. In the wild and crazy crowd I hang around with, I am the vagabond; Chicago most of my life til I was 28 then, Halifax NS (2 years) then, Atalanta Ga, then, Watertown Wi then, Key West, Fl then, Cleveland, Oh Now, ten years later, back in Chicago. It’s kinda funny, conversations always start with, “So, how long are ya staying in Chicago?” I can only answer, “I don’t know.” or 'We’ll see." ---

First I lived 18 years just west of St. Louis in the same house. Then I went to college in Springfield, MO and I had 5 different dorm rooms while there. Then I had two different apartments in Springfield. Then we bought a house out in the country. Then we sold that and bought another house in Springfield. Then we sold that and bought another house down in the Heart of the Ozarks. Then we sold that and bought a house here in Kansas City. It’s now 17 years since I left for college. Is that a lot of moving? (I think so) ---

Born in Boston. Then lived in Turkey (Ankara, Izmir, Bodrum & Istanbul & someplace I can’t remember), Greece (Mykonos, Lindos, & some other island), France (Bodrum, a commune), Egypt, England (Devon, London), Scotland (Isle of Skye, Edinburgh, Glasgow & someplace I can’t remember), California (Cupertino, San Jose, Scotts Valley, Willits), Colorado (Colorado Springs, Divide, Arvada & Denver), & moving to Michigan next month, near Flint. SO & I spend a loty of time in Harrisville MI because he has a lake place up there. I drove a semi over the road for three years, so have been in every state & city in the US. When I was 8-9 years old my mom hooked up with some guy in Europe & we lived in a bus with him travelling through Northern Europe…Italy, Switzerland, etc. We are an international family. I am the only one with a US passport. My father died in Hungary; my mother remarried an Aussie. She was born in Germany, became a US citizen, & relinquished her citizenship & now only has a UK passport. My youngest brother was born in devon & is a brit. He is living with a Norwegian in Chicago, currently. My sister was born with a US passport, became a Brit, but is now Israeli, living in Jerusalem since 1986. She is married to an English converted Jew, & they have an adopted son from Romania. My other brother was born in Turkey & carries dual citizenship UK/Spanish. He lives in Barcelona with his Catalonian wife & her daughter, & they have a daughter together. Oh, I forgot to mention my Aussie step father has a Chinese grandmother.
