Or in Edmonton - 2013-10141 119th St. gets kinda ridiculous looking.
It must be one of those rugged individualist western things – wanting to be a person rather than a number. Oh, wait a minute . . .
Actually, I could do with a bit of standardization, for the post office does not recognize my municipality, and the fields for my driver’s license and passport do not permit anywhere near enough character spaces to contain even an abbreviated address, so what I have ended up with on most of my ID is a kluge that will get my mail to me, but is by no means my address.
Can’t you just put the name and postal code? I thought that was the bare minimum for mail to reach you.
It depends on the mood of the sorter/carrier. My postal code is shared by under 300 families, so it wouldn’t be a big leap to make. Unfortunately, there are some true shit-for-brains employed by Canada Post. What I find astounding is when a letter sets out both my municipality and my postal code, some genius at Canada Post returns it to sender because Canada Post does not recognize my municipality, even though if the posties simply routed it according to the postal code, the letter would make it to the postal station in my neighbouring municipality from where the sorters/carriers would deliver it to me.
A good analogy would be if you live in Mississauga, and mail was addressed to you in Mississauga, it would not be delivered to you. Whereas if you lived in Mississauga, and mail was addressed to you incorrectly in Toronto, it would be deliverd to you in Mississauga.
The sad thing is that I am really easy to find. Start in New Orleans, head north on 61, and once in Kanukistan turn at the ski jump. Mine is the place with the hanging canoe. Can’t miss it – unless you are Canada Post.
I recently had my driver’s license renewal form returned because I had only used two digits for the year. Given that there are few hundred year old drivers and zero nine year old drivers, I don’t see any opportunity for error for at least twenty more years.
I’ve never had a problem giving my credit card dates as 10 of 11.
