I was at RFK Stadium recently and saw they had something on the menu called “the World’s Largest Gummi Bear” for close to $25 (I think). I forgot to ask about it at the time, but was reminded of it today, so I looked it up. Made by a company called Vat19, it is the equivalent of 1,400 normal-sized gummi bears, weighs about 5 pounds, and has 12,600 calories. Vat19 also make something called “Gummi on a Stick” (which was also on the RFK menu) and “the World’s Largest Gummi Worm.” Novelty value aside, who buys these things? ---

Was it carved by gummi artisans who were exclusively in the medium of gummi? ---

I saw that on World’s Largest Food, or something. I like the Astro flavor. Definitely need a knife and fork for that! ---

I’ve seen larger than normal gummi bears, but not the largest ever. As to who buys it - the same people that buy giant pieces of chocolate or other giant things. IOW, romantics (in both the amorous and generally passionate sense). When I was a kid, I made my mom a valentine that was like 7 feet wide by 7 feet high. I can see anyone who cared a lot, either as a love interest, or as just a good friend, about someone who had a thing for gummi bears getting one to make a statement. ---

I think what puzzled me the most was why someone would buy it at a soccer game, which is the only thing happening at RFK these days. It’s a very odd concession choice. ---

I got an Astro one for my birthday last year. The green apple flavor was very good, the lemon and cherry flavors were normal gummi bear flavors. It took me almost 5 months of carving off a chunk every few days to finish it. I got it for the fn value, setting it on my desk got a lot of people to stop by to say “What the hell is that?”
