Conscripted for a year, like \>75% of the guys in my generation. After that, ten years in the Home Guard with annual 1-week repetition exercises and all my personal gear stashed at home. Including a fully functional assault rifle and 100 live rounds. ---

Note that while according to most statistics less than 10% of the population have served in the military, more than 30% of the Dopers voting so far have served/are serving. That is more than triple than national average. ---

Got awfully close to going into the Air Force as an officer, but veered off at the last moment–I got fed up with some BS they were giving me over a minor medical issue I was honest/stupid enough to disclose at the physical. This was right after 9/11, I’m walking in to volunteer, and you’re making me jump through hoops because I have hearburn? :dubious: ---
