# Have you turned on your heat yet?

Delaware. USA.
When temps consistently bottom out in the 30ās and daytime temps stop hitting 60+, the heat will go on.
That wonāt happen until December. Iām not even very āgreenā. I just think dressing properly would help you from turning on the heat for whileā¦ I donāt think anyone should run the heater just because you are a little chilly.

Iowa - not yet. It got a little chilly a few evenings, but we just threw an electric blanket on the bed to get it nice and comfy right before we turn in. We turn it off when we climb into bed, but it was nice having a warm bed to crawl into. Now that the temps are back up, I overheat at night having that dumb thing on the bed, so I usually shove everything except the top quilt off of me, into a pile in the middle of the bed.
He moved the thermostat, and hasnāt hooked it back up yet. Iām always curious on my drive home which project he tackled that day. (IOW, today the thoughts are: will the garage roof be done, or will the thermostat be installed, or will the pumpkins be carved, or will it be something else that I donāt know is āin the worksā - its a toss up!)

North central Iowa. Ran the furnace a few times about a month ago (a couple of 40 degree nights), but for the last week or so our temps have been in the 80 degree range, above normal for this time of the year. Sunny and dry. I should appreciate it, but itās kinda boring.

Well, this week is the first time this fall we have been able to open our doors and windows, and let the night breezes blow through the screens. It has been too hot until now in S Arizona.
Lovely. Almost as good as the sea breezes blowing through the house on Molokai

No, in fact I still have my cooler on during the day, although the nights are definitely cooling off. Afternoons are still in the mid 90s.

In Chicago, and not yet. Closed all the windows and turned off the ceiling fans for a couple of days, but maybe being so close to the lake has kept things a little warmer than for those more inland. The trees are just now starting to turn yellow and leaves havenāt dropped yet within a few blocks of the lake. I heard theyāre pretty much down in the 'burbs.
The silence with no fans, no a/c and no heat running is wonderful. I never realized my computerās fan made any noise until a week ago. Itās a very quiet fan. I had turned the ceiling fans off and the windows were shut and I heard this electronic whirring. It took me a minute to realize it was the computer!

Pittsburgh. I turned it on last week. It says the low tonight is 38, but itās 60 right now, so I donāt think Iāll need it.
My heat is free. Itās one of the first things I look for in an apartment, where maybe 1/3 or 1/2 apartments has it (since there are no individual gas meters).

Weāre in the middle of that crazy fall weather where itās 90 one day and 60 the next, then 90 again. While weād probably have been OK without the heat, I think itās kicked on a couple of times. Hard to tell though - we recently upgraded the thermostat to one that switches modes automatically (e.g. if temp goes about 74 it kicks on the AC, if it goes below 68 it kicks on the heat, with the set temperature ranges varying by time of day and day of week).
I love the new thermostat. No more will we have āIām freezing, turn on the heatā followed by 2 days later with āitās 90 out, why isnāt the AC on? Oh.ā.

Amen to that. One of my motherās neighbors wants to be in the house in his underwear, in December. The rest of the HOA tells him he should move to the Canary Islands or parts south thereof (but not too far south thereof).

Gosh, no. Todayās high will be 88 degrees. The low will be 66. It dipped into the 50s in the early evening one day last week and people started saying, āoooh, itās fall!ā

Albany, NY. And while it gets very cold here, the heat has not kicked in. We have very good insulation. I have an automatic thermostat that is supposed to kick in at 4:45 if the heat drops belowā¦62, I think, and it hasnāt turned on yet.

Twin Cities, Minnesota. Weāve been having way above-normal fall temperatures so we have not turned on the heat at all yet. Usually, weāll turn it on in the evening a few times before it goes on permanently for the winter.

Bay Area. Hell no, we brought out the fans again. Itās been in the 80s for the past few days.
We try to keep our heat off until December 1. This is easier because we have space heaters in the rooms we use at night.

This is Arizona. Itās 99 degrees today, and itās only been in the last 2 weeks weāve been able to sleep without the AC on.
Weāll run the heat for a few days in late Jan/early Feb.

I turned the heat on a couple weeks ago to check the furnace, but we only closed all the windows this week and thanks to thick stone walls the house is still sitting at around 22 degrees. I imagine it will be turned on before the end of the month though.

We are in northeast Florida. No heat yet.
Today was the first day in four months that the AC was never on at all.
LOVE the open windows (have had them open at night for a couple weeks.)

Omaha, NEāWeāve been enjoying wonderful late summer temps here. At night, it can get a bit chilly, but we have been using the down comforters and snuggly blankets on the sofasā¦so we have not needed to turn on the heat yet!
