You’re a liar. You’ve told this lie so many times that I think you are starting to believe it yourself. I don’t feel like humoring you today, though. I don’t believe you and I doubt you will find many genuinely pro-gun people here who do. Hey, junior-I haven’t been a moderator for a while, so what’s your excuse for not pitting me directly instead of dropping your scumpuppy turds in other forums and running away? Is it because I’ve publically stated that I won’t stoop to your level in those other forums and you feel safe there?

I don’t think our problem can be solved with laws being passed. Its a nice gesture, but it won’t matter much. There’s just too many of the goddam things already in public hands. They don’t rot, they have no expiration date. Even moderately maintained, they will last for years and years.
Only the long, slow, painful path of cultural change will get us where we need to go. We can achieve our ends, but the path with be long and hard. In the meantime, I was heartsick yesterday, am today, and will be heartsick again tomorrow. And so it goes.

You’re wrong. Like many Dopers in many Fora here- the Pit included- my posts are both reactive and interpretive. I interpret a poster’s post and write a post in reply. In no way did I lie by stating that I knew for a fact what your state of mind is. Like all other Dopers who post a reply to someone else. If, on the other hand, you want all Dopers who respond with a post to someone else’s posts and in doing so presume to understand a state of mind or position taken to be chastised, I do believe that ATMB is the proper place to go for a rule change. 🙂

Wait, there’s more and not an angry or combative “more” either.
In carefully reading your post, it does appear that you’ve reached a personal threshold moment that I did not catch, and which is quite laudable.
If you are sickened by the idea of kids being killed- and I do believe you- then you have taken the first very important step on the road to removing weapons of death from your home and life. I don’t know if you have children, it isn’t any of my/our business to ask. If you do have kids or just respect life and especially a young life, then your reaction of feeling sick at the idea of children being blown into small pieces by the weapons used in Connecticut is a healthy first step.
I applaud you for admitting this in public on the Boards. I also encourage you to explore the next steps- removing all firearms from your home and place of business and re-examining why it is you want them in your life in the first place.
Again, a great first step. As has been said by quite a few parents of children who were shot to death, of something positive in any way can result, that’s all they can hope for.

To protect my children, I need the death penalty instantly applied to any drunk driver. If you get roadside tested and fail, the cop just shoots you dead. THAT would protect the children.
After that, we bring back the loony bins. You act out? We get you reviewed and locked up without appeal until such a time as a panel of mental health professionals deems you OK.
In the meantime, I will keep teaching gun safety classes to kids, train my kids to shoot, and enjoy the sport. I was happy to have a shotgun nearby in my apartment after the LA quake - chased off a guy who was coming through my window. Why on earth would I want to give that protection up?

Because those rational adults who can differentiate between the normal risks of navigating the planet as it is today and having a weapon that only exists to kill is…well, a difference that rational adults can discern.
