# Having problems with NC state taxes

I owe a few years back state income taxes in NC. I am trying to take care of it. I sent them a letter asking to setup payment arrangements, but the mindless drones who work for the NCDOR sent the letter back to me, in an envelope they didn’t even bother to close. They also sent a final notice threatening garnishment, seizure, blah blah blah.

I have a couple questions. I would appreciate if someone could point me to some resources to look at NC State tax law. I am having a hard time finding anything. Also how much can they garnish and what rights do I have? If I demand a hearing regarding my tax matters will that delay any attachment or garnishment?

I had a similar problem and called the 800 number on the notice. I ended up talking to a quite helpful person who extended my deadline until we could straighten it out. Try this one–1-877-252-3052, from this site. [Home Page | NCDOR](http://www.dor.state.nc.us/individual/)
