He didn't change his mind on the mandate

As a moderator, you know very well that posters must be civil and respectful outside of the pit. Perhaps you should reconsider doing the job if you don’t like the rules.

This is the Pit. I sure am surprised you’re still whining, though. Didn’t see that one coming.

That means you liked him better. Holding him to a higher standard would mean understanding that he’s a typical politician who lies an awful lot and whose words should be taken with a grain of salt.

Instead, the attitude here is that his words should not only be taken seriously, but interpreted in the best possible way, something which he counts on when carefully crafting his statements. He’s skilled enough to avoid “pants on fire” moments most of the time, and Dopers let him get away with the “mostly false” stuff.

You didn’t know you started your own thread in the Pit?
Priceless.

That’s why I started the thread here. Duh.

Look, I know you like the guy, and I know you take it hard when people attack him, thus you see personal attacks on opponents of the President as justified. I get it. that’s why we’re here in the Pit, so that you guys can attack me while squirming to defend an obvious lie on the President’s part(or laughing it off by saying you won’t vote for him again, ha ha).

Look, just admit he’s a typical politician and everything he says will be designed to further a political goal. Politicians are simply not in the ignorance-fighting business, and if Dopers don’t recognize that, then they have no hope of ever getting anywhere. Every other board I’ve been on recognizes this basic fact: politicians are liars. Except this board. It’s weird.

As for my arrogance, it came about when I recognized that not only are 80% of liberal Dopers’ opinions stupid, but they are so emotionally invested in them that they can’t tolerate disagreement without resorting to personal attacks. I’m just getting into the spirit of the culture of this board, you know, except for being angry at being disagreed with. I’ll limit the personal attacks to responding in kind. I would never, ever, attack a poster merely for expressing an opinion, which I guess makes me a minority here.

I’ve said that plenty of times and I don’t have a problem admitting it. But I consider your statements even less trustworthy.

Well, you seem to think that Detroit and New York’s problems had nothing to do with Democratic rule, which is pretty astounding.

I don’t think any less of you for having such an odd opinion. It just tells me that you’re inclined to be very generous to Democrats.

BTW, folks, when you all hear some truly ignorant statements from regular folks you talk to in daily life at the office or around the dinner table, does your disdain come out as clearly as it does here?

I’d say I’m astounded at your failure to read or interpret what I really said- but I’m not astounded. Almost everything you say is totally disingenuous, so I expect you to reimagine other people’s posts as you see fit.

you think that’s unfair? You argued pretty vociferously that it wasn’t the Democrats’ fault. And I charitably ignored your own misuse of my statement that Romney was ahead in the national vote. So be nice, and avoid being the pot that calls the kettle black.

God, if someone in person said the stuff you say, I would call an ambulance for them.

People say much dumber things than I say here. Have I ever said Obama is a socialist Muslim who wants to impose sharia and gay marriage?

If they were as consistent about it as you, then yes.

I wouldn’t say “unfair.” I’d say “typical bullshit.”

You argued that everything that went bad in New York City from about 1970 to 1992 was the fault of the Democrats and everything that’s gone right since then is due to Republicans. I disagreed. You also argued that Democrats are the sole reason Detroit went broke. I also disagreed with that because I’ve heard of the auto industry. Both claims aren’t just wrong, they’re really stupid. It was a pretty typical performance for you: flog a couple of talking points without context or relevance, assuming everyone else knows nothing about the situation, and after your basic points are debunked, repeat them a couple more times with a dose of “I’m just saying!” or “gosh golly gee whiz, I sure hope I’m wrong… giggle.”

But tomorrow is another dumb day!

But you didn’t even get it right in your post that Marley quoted, you ignoramus. You said:

A quick look at the polls in your link show that Romney was only ahead in 2 of them, not six. And Obama was ahead in 4 of the 9 polls listed.

You can’t count, you can’t read polls correctly, you make statements that have no basis in fact… you’re a complete and utter nincompoop.

Well, sure, if someone said that to me, I’d call the coroner. You can’t recover from brain death.

But you? Dude, you type like a person but you think like a marmoset that’s been punched in the head a dozen times. It ain’t natural.

New York went from one of the most dangerous cities in the country to one of the safest. Further, it went from the edge of bankruptcy(actually, it did default), to fiscal stability. I’ll be interested in hearing your excuses when de Blasio goes a long way towards reversing those gains.

Cities don’t go broke because of the decline of an industry, unless they used the good times to be profligate and then failed to cut back when there were signs of trouble. Cities also go broke when they can’t control crime and the better off residents flee. Then there’s the machine politics and corruption that were part of the culture of Detroit, and which was once part of the culture of New York in the Tammany Hall days.

And you are apparently unaware that links change as they are updated. At the time I posted, Romney did in fact lead in most polls.

One thing I honestly do love about this board is how certain people are when they declare you an idiot, when they are the ones posting the idiocy. Do you not know that links get updated? Wow.

But don’t worry. you’re on the right side, so you’re record of saying really stupid things won’t be held against you.

No two ways about it, we just don’t deserve you.

What you don’t deserve is a bubble, which this place is in danger of becoming due to bad attitudes. And the intellectual certainty that I see from people thinking they’ve debunked something they haven’t. They don’t even recognize when the egg is on their own face.

Which is probably good, because many of you seem horrified at the idea of being wrong. So it’s for the best I guess that you don’t recognize when you’re wrong. we don’t need a higher suicide rate.
