But that also points at another problem with you, you avoid the discussion about the evidence shown in the cite that debunked the spin that you reported.
In this thread you repeated stuff like “Lizza is a partisan journalist” after it was pointed out that it isn’t true. This is a pattern of yours.
Good lord. Another thread whose entire reason for existing is to argue with adaher?
We’ve reached the point where it is no longer possible to tell who the idiots are. **adaher **or the people who argue with him. My money is on ‘both’.
Another example from a recent thread: several cites showing how wrong the people pushing for the ICE lawsuit against the dreamers were offered to adaher. The cites were dismissed by him, later when the courts dismissed the case it demonstrated that my sources were on the money (and it was a good test for Media Matters; unlike him I do constantly check if my sources are more on the money) while his sources told him that “Obama was scared and negotiating with the ones pushing the lawsuit” were wrong as I suspected.
At the same time when I noticed that only logic like the birthers use could had taken that ICE lawsuit as far as it did in the wrong venue, it was then important to notice that the ones representing and financing the lawsuit were themselves birthers and supported by racist organizations.
The navitee that you showed in your attempt at ignoring that evidence, particularly after the sources I cited did show to be correct on the outcome, was just more evidence on why many republicans get to be tarred with the observation that they are very, very tolerant of the bigots in their party.
The way I see it is that I do not post mostly for him, but because I like to learn more about the sources and to inform others, I don’t think there is not much of a chance that he will change, but I did change. In the sense that until that discussion I was not aware at all of who were the supporters behind the ICE lawsuit.
Many times people like him are useful in pointing at the rocks that **one should overturn **that do have creepy or dangerous bugs that could be bad for your home, so then others can we aware of what to avoid or to deal with.
Whereas I would, in the manner of the “atheist hears the voice of God” scenario that pops up here from time to time, assume that I was hallucinating.
Although I freely admit to sometimes being one of the idiots who argue with him. When we refute him and he refuses to admit it, things get pointless. His ignorance won’t be fought (successfully). Many have tried, many have failed. Addy, your absence would not harm this board. You don’t add value.
Adaher: What if it’s only happening to me on one board? Is it because the other boards are wrong about me, or that the culture of this particular board tends towards nastiness?
We have only your word for this. Other hypotheses: you intentionally troll this board with idiocy but not the others, the other boards are skewed heavily in your partisan direction, there are no ‘other boards’…
See, leading up to the election, lots of people tried to fight your ignorance. History shows us that those posters were correct, and you were WAY wrong. You were incapable or unwilling at that time of changing your opinion when facts or superior reasoning were presented.
You remain just as incapable today. This can be maddening, and I’m not surprised that your contributions eventually elicit annoyance.
Yeah, trying to reason with adaher, or watching other people try, is like watching people try to reason with a desk. After a while, you just want to move on, but the damned desk is in the way.
So I’ve got something new I’m mad about and I’d like to share it here rather than starting a new thread:
The latest administration talking point is that thanks to the opening of the exchanges, millions will now “be able to sign up for affordable insurance”.
Oh wow! Does that mean it’s optional now? Why not tell the truth, that millions of Americans will HAVE to sign up for affordable insurance?
Orrrrr, every board has it’s own culture and this one’s involves a lot of viciousness. Which is because it’s an ideologically unbalanced board. Rather than fighting ignorance, it’s more like a middle school clique arguing about whether Metallica or Slayer is better, and if someone comes in and says, “Madonna!” they get viciously razzed.
The kinds of things I get asked for cites for tells me that most of you haven’t even HEARD most conservative arguments, much less actually grappled with them. Like I said, we have here on Straight Dope, an intellectual bubble. And the denizens work really hard to make sure it stays that way. It’s not fighting ignorance, it’s perpetuating it in pursuit of an ideological agenda.
I think you’ve already demonstrated poor deductive reasoning, so it’s no real surprise you’re still missing the boat.
It’s not the ideology Adaher, I’ve ripped liberals that argue in poor faith. It’s the fact that disingenuous argument always has been and continues to be your MO.
So yeah, your above quote? Blame shifting bull shit.
Strangely, my supposedly disingenous arguments merely get rebutted elsewhere. you’d think that would be enough. It would be if people weren’t so unused to having their beliefs challenged. very strange behavior on a board that supposedly fights ignorance.
Hmmm. You point the finger at the denizens of the dope. They so far almost unanimously point the finger at you. Gee… I wonder who’s more likely right?
Ohh… and I call pure, unadulterated bullshit on your," Other boards are more civilized" ouvre’ de turd.
Got something to back it up? By all means, please share. But your claim flies in the face of what I’ve read at other boards in discussions of the body politic.
This made me laugh out loud.
Yeah, me too. I kinda feel a little bad at laughing at victims of Obama Derangement Syndrome, but dammit it’s simply funny sometimes.
So it is voluntary and I was just crazy to think otherwise. Good to know.
Yeah, that’s the greatest “Gotcha, ya” since the beginnings of the Dope. Really, ADdy, just go to your superior other Boards. It sounds much more gratifying for you, and for us.
Win-win.
It wasn’t a big gotcha, just a typical example of dishonesty on the part of the administration. Except on an issue that’s a pretty big deal to a lot of people. I’m sure those who don’t want to sign up will be thrilled to know that they are now merely “able to sign up”. Kinda like how the draft was an opportunity to join the Army.
This is an example of the partisanship of this board. Arguments made that can be countered, are countered with a single cite and then the liberals do a victory dance, and arguments that can’t be countered get laughed off as nothing important.
Hmmm, who else does that? Oh yeah, Presidential Press Secretaries! C’mon guys, let’s at least rise to the level of Crossfire.
No, you’ve just burned through almost all of the people with the patience to explain the errors in your logic, or who think you sincerely believe the arguments you’re making.
