Here’s me, from southwest New Brunswick. I sound so high-pitched!
You have a lovely voice. I think I know what you mean though; I feel the same surprise about my own pitch when I hear recorded samples. To myself, I sound at least an octave down from what comes across in recordings - I actually think my voice is verging on deep when it’s way up there in the rafters. It’s quite disconcerting!
Good thing I’m a woman. Were I male, I’d probably sound like Tiny Tim.
ETA: Oy!, maybe the difference came from hearing one Aussie first (South Aussie) and then another Aussie (Victorian) straight afterwards, vs what you’d originally have heard: ie, American first, then Aussie? Regardless, glad to know I’m not spontaneously cycling through random vowels.
Aw, thank you! I’m exactly the same way, I think I have a deep voice because my singing range is low for a girl, but clips like that make me sound like I’m 6 years old. Actually, I just asked my friend and she said I’m speaking a little higher than I usually do, probably because I’m reciting something.
My lovely best friend also just told me I had better not let you all hear me laugh. Hey, someone should start a “Share your ugly laugh” thread!
Here’s mine, born and living in West-Central Alabama, but, in my opinion, not with much of a Southern accent. I tried to vary my tone a little, as if I were actually speaking it in conversation.
Valete,
Vox Imperatoris
That would be awesome.
It appears that only MP3s get a play button. Some people have been uploading WAVs or WMAs. I’d love to tell you how to save as an MP3, but it’s different depending on which program you’re using to record it.
But this website will convert your file for you to MP3. And if you find it takes too long to upload, you can use this free program. (Don’t install any of the extras, as I’m not sure they’re free.)
As for my sample(s), give me a bit.
Is that Vincent Price’s accent I hear?
