Usually they’re listening for the sound of the ball hitting the glove to compare to the sound of the foot hitting the bag, whichever was first wins.
And watching for foot on bag, clean catch, etc.
That doesn’t sound right to me, but even if right I don’t see how it makes it more likely you’ll get the call when you shouldn’t. Wouldn’t it make it just as likely that you’d not get it when you should.
