Hear (and Share) Dopers Making Music

Not me (I retired from music after earning $5 and several thrown full beer bottles), but my better half is an accomplished musician, playing with some other ladies in a grrl rock band called Clover Honey as well as doing her own solo thing as Amy Honey ( mp3 here / low tech video here)

Me and my buddy do a kind-of cheap imitation of Tenacious D…called Sex Power (but we write our own stuff)…we have videos of our first couple of open mics on the web and some mp3s we recorded quickly in my basement. I play most of the guitar. We do this mostly to keep ourselves out of trouble, but somehow we have actually managed to get a couple of gigs that are coming up in the next month…if anyone in Philly wants to check us out live see the website for details: http:\sexpower.tv

I am going to check out everyone else’s stuff and comment in another post.

This thread is a great idea.

Believe it or not, sexpower.com was already taken. :frowning:

slu - ah, empowered, bitter mullet-head rock - too funny.

vlmungo - one of resident music experts, I might add - I clicked on the Clover Honey link and while the logo and stuff were cool, I couldn’t access the Sounds. On a cable modem and everything seems to be working properly. FYI.

Thanks for the props!

I guess the Clover Honey site is still in transition (off of geocities, and being slicked up a tad).
Here’s a link to one of their songs.

So, Wordman… where’s your songs???

Whaddya mean, “where’s my songs?!?” check the thread this one started with! (see the OP for a link to the original thread, and I expect feedback, dammit!)

Heh, I didn’t do anything; maybe my host’s server hiccuped or something. The vocal is actually forwards (see above for the lyrics), and is a friend of mine sped up a bit.

Curious Canuck and I will be recording a proper studio demo of our show, TRASH!, hopefully sometime in the fall or early next year. Right now, all we have are crappy home demos (well, not all that crappy) that I did in Sonar. Problem is, there’s no singing, so you don’t get the full effect. The studio demo will have singers, real instruments (along with my many synths), real drums & percussion, and will be properly mixed.

In any case, once the studio demo is done, expect much hype here.

I guess it’s gonna take longer than I thought :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not all that musical but I do sing. Here’s my rendition of “Jambalaya”. Just me singing a capella into my computer at home with a bit of reverb added.

A lot of good stuff on this thread.

Some stuff from various bands in my angry youth:

The Service of Mankind - Vile Tribe - I’m all the keyboards and drums; Jason was the drums and vocals through a megaphone.
Used to Love Her - Wake - The GNR tune. I’m all the music; Tom is the vocals.
Stand By Me - My niece was in town from Austin, so I recorded her playing the bass line, then added everything on top. I’m all the rest of the music; Dave is all the vocals.
Goodbye - I’m all the music; Heather is the vocals.

There’s plenty more where that came from.

See sig.

I’ve been waiting for a thread like this…

I am part of a hip-hop Duo - - called organized rhyme
you can access our homepage via my signature - - but here is a direct link to an mp3 hosting site where I’ve put most of our music from the last three years…

I’m interested to hear any feedback - as seemingly no-one who has visited the web-page or listened to the tracks wants to give any!!

http://www.musicv2.com/artist/organized
by the way in the picture you get on this page - I’m the one on the right

As soon as I get a chance at home I’ll check out some of the other links on this thread - - sadly I’m at work and without a soundcard!!

oh yeah - - thought I’d better add…
being that our music is hip-hop there is a fair ammount of bad language scattered through the songs… ( especially F Hip-Hop 2 and What It Takes (part 2) which both have the dreaded F-word in the chorus! )

the newer they are the less frequent - - it’s amazing how when you start to concentrate on writing something well you seem less reliant on filler words…

also, I don’t just make hip-hop music - although that’s all you will find at that site - - I ought to upload some of the stuff I have done for my friends Student films - and some pop that I made for my sister and other friends…

“Shelly’s Got Friends” is very cool, Big Bad Voodoo Lou. FYI, the other song links seem to be down.

“Rich Man” is my favorite by Yell County, An Arky.

“Zombie FlapJack” gets my vote for Most Unique, Already in Use. Cool.

All the Fenster tunes are excellent, dnooman.

Very Trent-ish, interface2x. I like them both.

I’ll jump in, assuming this zombie thread doesn’t get closed (or die a second untimely death).

Here’s some stuff I did with my first band, about 5 years ago. I wrote the lyrics to everything but the Shawn Colvin cover, and all of the lead vocals are me. The sound is really crappy: a friend videotaped our gig, I copied the audio from the videotape to casette, then to my computer. I did attempt to do some cleanup with a cheap audio application, but “really crappy” might be an understatement. Some people say that they can’t make out a single word I’m singing, so lyrics for the originals are provided.

I have been listening to the other stuff here, I just have no time to post my comments at the moment. I swear that I will…are the people who posted the songs still around?

(Ok, yes, I know that the thread isn’t technically a zombie. I didn’t bother to do the math before I posted my previous message. :smack: :stuck_out_tongue: )

Ok, here are my comments (for what they’re worth):

Big Bad Voodoo Lou - I was able to download Shelly’s Got Friends but I couldn’t get it to play. Windows Media Player didn’t like it, and iTunes wouldn’t import it. On a separate note (heh), I looked around your “bachelor pad” and stumbled upon the Visited States/Countries stuff…very cool!

An Arky - Yell County is great! Rich Man and Gonna remind me of Cowboy Mouth, which has been my favorite band for the past 6 years. Too bad there’s no official Yell County site for gig info.

dnoorman - I like ska, so I like Fenster. Hello made me smile, but I think my favorite was Meltdown.

pulykamell - I’m a sucker for pop, and really liked Amber Willoughby.

DooWahDiddy - I’m not a big fan of contemporary instrumentals, but I love the piano (I’ve been a pianist myself for the past 25 years) and you definitely have some solid piano chops. I genuinely enjoyed listening to your clips!

slu - Holy crap, My Woman Done Me Wrong made me laugh out loud! Excellent little tune, and – please don’t be insulted – I was surprised at how good the singing/harmony was.

Bruce_Daddy - I like Edentrap! I think my favorite clip was White Lies. A bit of Cheat vaguely reminded me of the Doors…maybe just Jim Morrison. In a good way, anyway.

I listened to everything here (which is why I didn’t have time to post all of this last night); if I haven’t commented on your stuff, it’s because the music just wasn’t my style (though cryptic_j, I must say that I like the name “Organized Rhyme!”). My style or not, though, I definitely didn’t hear anything “bad.” There are some powerful talented Dopers hereabouts!

Thanks, Misnomer (Bill H., too) !..we’re working on getting a site soon. Next gig is ::cough:: Iota ::cough:: 12/18 ::cough:: 9pm ::cough::

Damn! Must have something caught in my throat!

Iota…nice.

You should see someone about that cough.
