How did the cartoonish heart symbol seen on greeting cards and bumper stickers originate? It is not shaped like the actual human heart.

I think it actually looks quite a bit like the human heart. Sure, it’s not a perfect image, but for a simple rendering, it actually looks fairly accurate. Smaller, kind of pointy bottom, and “chambers” on top.
