Hearts & Minds update: Shooting wounded prisoners in a mosque.

No, he made an unbelievably stupid remark. In fact, his remark is like a rotten cherry on top of sundae made out of shit. If someone screws up like this soldier did, they shouldn’t get a pat on the back and a shrug of the shoulders. Not only does it send a terrible message, but it’s not just.

Ever heard of holding people accountable for their actions, both good and bad? It’s a concept that was en vogue about 4 years ago (around the time that Clinton was busting nuts in the Oval Office), but is quickly falling out of fashion.

Let me guess. You’re one of those either/or thinkers, aren’t you? Either fry the bastard or invite him to sleep on your sofa. Gotcha.

That anecdote is not as revealing as the reason you posted it. It’s obvious you think we can bribe the Iraqi hearts and minds. We can blow up their homes, pop the roofs off their mosques, put bullets in their bodies, maim their babies, but you think none of that will matter to them. Because money heals all wounds.

If someone killed your loved ones and demolished your home, would any amount of money make you respect that person? Be honest with yourself.

Says the person who is not living in a battleground.

But can we resurrect the dead? That is the question, my friend.

I always thought that was an ideal Republicans espoused. But it seems that all suddenly goes out the window when the military is involved. Anything goes. Want to shoot wounded unarmed prisoners in the head? We disapprove of this (wink, nod) whatever you do, don’t let us catch you doing this! And if you get caught doing this, you better be damned certain not to let us catch you doing this on camera!

You continue to amuse. His remarks, as posted and approved by you, amounted to an utterly selfish and ill-conceived sound bite. Our troops will pay for his ratings.

As to cheeky humor? No wiggle room there, sweetie…we know humor when we see it. The problem for you, my friend, it that we also know stupidity.

Are you kidding? The Republicans believe in “personal accountability” the same way they believe in anything else – only when it’s convenient for them to do so.

Where’s the personal accountability for those nonexistent Iraqi WMDs?
Where’s the personal accountability for letting Bin Laden run around free for four years now?
Where’s the personal accountability for the Valerie Plame leak?
Where’s the personal accountability for the lack of post-war planning in Iraq?
Where’s the personal accountability for the Abu Garade fiasco?
Where’s the personal accountability for turning a healthy budget surplus into a record-breaking deficit?

But then, what do you want from a political party that thinks a blowjob is grounds for impeachment, but lying to start a war is No Big Deal…

That’s because mosques are being used as fortifications, weapons depots, and sleeping quarters for the terrorists. If one is to hunt down muslim terrorists, they are likely to be found in mosques, schools, and hiding behind women and small children.

As for this particular incident, the US soldier is hardly at fault. When confronted with an enemy who does not follow any rules, an enemy that booby-traps corpses and uses white flags to attempt “fake” surrenders, it is common sense to err on the side of caution when dealing with these barbarians.

When dealing with wacko muslim terrorists, I would have done the exact same thing myself. Had this US soldier died, then not many of you would have given a crap, so I don’t particularly care to hear about all the whining going on just because some terrorist thug was killed. Seriously, who cares ?

Give the US soldier some R&R, that’s what he deserves.

“Barbarians” who “don’t follow rules?”

Have you been paying attention, dipshit?

Were we “following rules” at Abu Ghraib?. Does that mean anyone in a US Military unoifirm is a “barbarian” who does not deserve the protections of the Geneva Convention?

Should the Rules of Engagement under the UCMJ be enforced? Yes or no?

The invasion of Iraq, in itself, was a violation of international law.

What fucking rules have WE followed?

Only morons talk like this.

Then you would be a criminal and you would be unfit for military duty because you are an undisciplined, stupid tool who would get other soldiers killed.

Go fuck yourself, scumbag. You don’t have a clue how we feel about dead soldiers, at least two of the posters I’ve seen condemning this action in these threads are Vietnam vets. Tell them they don’t give a shit a soldier gets killed, you ignorant, clueless, tribalistic pusbag.

FYI. it doesn’t mean shit what you, in your ignorance, think about this action or about the fact that it happened in a mosque. What matters is what the Iraqis are going to think of it, the beheadings and roadside bombings that it’s going to cause, and the continuing damage that is being done to our national credibility as any sort of legitimate ethical superpower.

I know just where he can get it…little place in northeast Kansas…

Sorry for the cynical need for independently corroborated evidence, but may I have a cite that confirms the “booby-trapped corpses” claim? So far I haven’t seen anything that would cause me to give it any greater weight than the story of the plastic shredder in Baghdad.

Something that does not link to the shooting being discussed in this thread would be greatly appreciated.

It is apparently you who is the moron, since you find the term “wacko muslim terrorists” offensive. They are indeed brainwashed, religious fanatics, and primitive murderers. They are most certainly wacko, and their pathetic ideology is going to lead to their demise. I liken them to a primitive version of the Borg.

Moron.

Are you claiming they’re all clinically insane?

Where exactly did I claim that they were all clinically insane ? Inorder for one to reach that conclusion, one must first have had clinical trials, and I am unware of such trials taking place yet.

I am claiming they’re wacko, as in brainwashed.

Never play poker with a guy named Doc, never eat at a place called Mom’s, and never expect sense from someone named The Truth.

That’s my motto.

Just pretend my username is Dan Rathers, your brain cells are probably more receptive to that line of thought.

So you are claiming that they’re not brainwashed, religious fanatics ?

No more than GWB…and it’s spelled w-h-a-c-k-o.

You have no idea who the guy who was shot actually was. Or if you do, please let us know.

I don’t care for the “h”, and my way is correct also.

They are probably criminals who, when captured, should receive fair treatment and a fair trial, just as the American who probably committed a war crime should receive fair treatment and a fair trial.

If you wander back up in this thread, you will note that in Diogenes’ post #206, he asked you some very good questions. Would you like to take a stab at answering those? Here, I’ll help:

This item relates to one of the beheaded bodies being booby-trapped if that helps. I don’t think something like this happening is such a stretch.

I am not of the mindset that this exonerates anything either. I think an investigation and trial is in order for the soldier. I don’t think we should rush to judgement to exonerate or condemn. We, unlike the soldier, have time to think.

Brilliant man.

<golf clap>

Thanks for the link, smartini. Clearly, the claim is better-established than the one about the plastic shredder. Does it make clear that this is an enemy tactic that justifies wholesale alteration of the rules of engagement? I would be reluctant to argue (or to accept an argument) that it does. In fact, I consider it very tenuous.

Admittedly, I am not a soldier on the ground in Iraq. I do not wish on anyone the task that they have before them, and I hope that all of them return home safely, without killing anyone else. I do not believe that they were sent over there with a legitimate purpose in the first place. Having thrown Iraq into such disarray, however, my country cannot now morally abandon the Iraqis to deal with it alone.

George Bush the Lesses and his cronies are going to Hell for this, and I say this as a man who does not believe in Hell.
