Heavy Metal music suggestions

Personal insults aren’t allowed in Cafe Society. I can, however, tell you that the Opie and Anthony bands you named sound gay as shit.

Welcome to the board, IluvAxCx. You can say what you want about any type of music, but you’re not allowed to insult other posters in any part of this site except The BBQ Pit. Please don’t do this again. Thanks.

I recommend Lizzy Borden.

Because of their use of melody, which has become more of a factor for them in the last 5-6 years, I thought they might be of interest to Sir T, just like I suggested Sepultura, even tho they don’t strictly fit the definition of a prog band.

Lighten up, Francis.

As a former college radio metal DJ, I’m gonna fill out yer metal library right here right now with a good mix of all genres of metal, but no pussy shit!

Motorhead "No Sleep 'til Hammersmith"
If you are really serious, try and track down the cassette version, guaranteed to blow out your speakers. Greatest live metal album ever. The cassette deal also applies to Venom’s “A Little Light Night Music” live double album.

Celtik Frost "Morbid Tales"
Heaviest album EVER made. Hands down. It will weigh you down after just listening to it!

Skid Row "Slave to the Grind"
Suprisingly thrashing sophomore followup. The guitars just shred through your speakers, and setting aside the pretty boy image, Sebastian Bach simply shreds the vocals. This album is rockingest.

Black Sabbath "Dehumanizer"
Dio sheds his bullshit dungeons and dragon lyrics, Tony Iommi gets back to basics, this ranks near the tops in terms of uncompromising heavy, heavy Sab CDs.

Motley Crue "Shout at the Devil"
I was never a big Crue guy, but every song on this album kicks ass.

**Accept “Metal Heart” **
Udo Dirkschneider unplugged would still be metal. Be prepared for dogs to surround your house after playing this, however.

Judas Priest "Stained Class"
In a famous 80s court case, a high school kid killed himself while listening to this. You KNOW there must be backwards masking involved, now how metal is that?

Slipknot "Iowa"
I’m still scared to play this CD. I’m afraid the Devil is going to show up and kill everyone in my neighborhood every time I play it.

There’s actually 2-3 other titles I am guessing belong on this list, but its after 2pm and I have to be up in 5 hours, and I’ve been drinking all night, so fuck off, I’ll think of those later!

This is hilarious. Thanks for the overall education…checking out the links…

I going to post a link to the track list for the upcoming heavy metal themed videogame Brutal Legend.

Black Sabbath.
Black Sabbath.
Black Sabbath.

And I think that’s really all you need to know.

Yeah, it’s comical. You should see the deer-in-the-headlights look in a record store manager’s eyes when I try and explain to him how/why they have these bands misfiled.

I once found all three band’s CDs lumped into one tray in the pop/rock section of the store, and no section at all for either in the metal area.

Thankfully, the guys at my local Zia store listened to me and now file Architects in metal, but they don’t yet have a divider to seperate Architect from Architects. As I bought the only copy of the Architect CD, that may not matter much.

For Sir T: After reading your last comment again (about Dethklok) I thought maybe you’d like Destroyer 666. Great album.

I’ll check back in this afternoon and see if we have any reviews of my previous links.

Other bands play, Manowar kills!

Bo,

I’m trying really hard to find the time to go through the music, I promise I will soon…

This song by The Autumn Offering came up while I was walking today. The lineup of the band has changed twice since this album (their 2nd), so I’m not sure what they sound like today, but this tune fuckin’ rocks.

British Steel by Judas Priest is absolutely essential. No single release has had the impact of this one.

I heavily recommend The Mars Volta’s Bedlam in Goliath, particularly the track “Goliath” (although I’m for the most part a sissy Indie fan, so YMMV.)

all these bands and noones mentioned my favorite… GWAR dammit! GWAR! GWAR! GWAAAAAAAAR! except for those couple albims in the middles… their last 3 or 4 albums have been great!

Rumors Of War by High On Fire.

If you like really heavy (heavy as in slow and dark) psychadelic metal, try Electric Wizard.

OK!

After spending a majority of my afternoon sifting through Snowboarder Bo’s links (thanks SO much man) I have found my little niche.

I am Progressive Death Metal!

I had a great time listening to all of that, and I found that I started loving on Mastodon pretty good, I LOVED Opeth (do they have any song under 6 minutes?!?) and about cried when I heard how awesome Amon Amarth was. I’m in the process of looking at multiple songs by these guys.

I can’t thank everyone enough for all their input!
