Hegseth calls all of the top military brass together for an in person meeting

Or he ordered it and then completely forgot, which is happening more often as he is so occupied with really important affairs of state like the construction of the gaudy new White House ballroom and switching out Biden’s portrait with a picture of an Autopen.

Stranger

Well, as I recall, Trump wanted to be appointed pope so perhaps being fired out of a cannon is his way of being “canonized”?

I’m looking forward to the next President, whoever he or she may be, to say, “Okay, first thing we do is to get all this fake gold crap out of the Oval Office, rip up the cement in the Rose Garden and replace it with sod, and destroy whatever’s been done on that ballroom thing. We’ve done without one so far, no need to build one now.”

Use it as a homeless shelter. The ultimate Trump insult.

An outstanding idea.

Love it. Name it for President James Carter.

I hope the Senate Armed Services Committee members are invited - or force their way in. I’m firmly in the ‘Oath to Trump’ camp with a pinch of ‘purge’ for seasoning. Also sure there will be Non-Disclosure Agreements for all.

My hope is that the generals bar the doors to keep Kegsbreath’s security out; then beat the living hell out of him (strictly hypothetically).

Or he is lying.l

He’s lying when he’s moving his mouth, but he lied in a different way. He pretended he knew that Hegseth invited generals from other countries. Then, Vance stepped in and said it was no big deal.

I’m goin’ with something like this. First, purge the Blacks, women, gays, and anyone who or whose parents/grandparents* weren’t born in one of the contiguous states of the USA. (Hawaii, Alaska–don’t count. Too much like foreign countries.)

Then the straight, white men who are left left have to pledge personal loyalty to trumpie AND swear that Charlie Kirk was a saint doing God’s work.

Then they may be allowed to continue working. Maybe. But they will be watched closely.

*The fact that this eliminates Donnie because both of his grandparents were foreign-born is a mere speck of an inconsequential detail that doesn’t matter.

ETA. This just in from WaPo

New details emerge on Hegseth’s unusual mass gathering of top brass

The defense secretary is expected to lecture about the “warrior ethos” for less than an hour, according to multiple people familiar with the event. But top generals are bracing for possible firings or demotions.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered hundreds of generals to travel on short notice from around the world to hear him make a short speech on military standards and the “warrior ethos,” multiple people familiar with the event told The Washington Post.

Hegseth appeared to address concerns about the meeting for the first time Friday morning, using his personal social media account. After a retired senior officer, Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, tweeted that German generals were “called to a surprise assembly in Berlin” in 1935 and “required to swear a personal oath to the Führer,” the defense secretary responded with sarcasm.

“Cool story, General,” Hegseth wrote.

The Tuesday speech is expected to be the first in a series of three short lectures Hegseth will deliver, two people familiar told The Post. The second will be on the defense industrial base, and the third will be on deterrence — planned to be delivered at the Reagan National Defense Forum in California in December.

The timing of the event has been of particular concern: The speech is set for Sept. 30, the last day of the fiscal year. If there is a government shutdown, it could leave key staff stranded in Virginia as military commands across the globe are juggling the security implications of Russia’s war against Ukraine, Israel’s renewed offensive in Gaza and the continued threat to U.S. personnel in the Middle East, where the Houthis and other Iranian-backed militias continue to fire missiles and drones at U.S. interests.

To which Hegseth says, “Who cares? I’m the boss and I can do this! So there!” as he stomps his foot.

Great use of taxpayer money for something that could have been an email. Hell, whatever that idiot is going to say would be better replaced with a YouTube link to the opening speech in Patton.

Nah, “The Donald J. Trump Poorhouse”. With an unofficial name of the “Poorly-made House”. Tie his name to poverty in perpetuity, it will drive him nuts.

Then name a lot of programs there, designed to help people, after other Presidents. The Carter Educational Program to Get People Out of Trump’s Poorhouse, things like that.

Well, there’s that DOGE Efficiency we’ve come to expect. Anyone want to guess the per-minute cost of this boondoggle? Military transport for a few hundred generals, their staff, the local military personnel who have to set this up, hourly-equivalent wages for the attendees, since they’re not doing their actual jobs for however many hours or days they waste on this, it’s going to add up.

And nobody there will pay attention to that moron.

Come on, who better to lecture the entire senior leadership of the US military about “warrior ethos” than the guy who spent his whole deployment typing press releases? They’ll be standing at rapt attention, guaranteed!

I see what you did there.

But you can’t humiliate your subordinates in front of their peers by email.

I’m going to bet that The Atlantic somehow got included in the invite. Probably Kegsbreath’s wife as well.

I feel sorry for anybody who has to take orders from this DUI hire.

Well, consistency has never been their strongest suit…

For anyone who has sat through a useless work meeting at which some nattering nincompoop bleats at you - can you imagine the reaction of these REALLY highly ranked and presumably competent and responsible leaders, to be hauled across the globe from their work that actually MATTERS - for THIS?

I can imagine the admin trying to get loyalty thru fear, but I’d think it would be tough to come up with an approach that would be more likely to alienate THIS audience. The question will be whether the generals and admirals disrespect Trump and stay, or whether they leave (get fired) and are replaced by incompetent yes-men.
