Heller and Douglas and math OH MY!

Poly, I think someone else also wondered why the value of e seemed to be what it was, and appears likewise in unexpected places.

But, ya know what really bothers me? In that hotel with infinite rooms & floors, there’d still only be one 13th floor!

Booga. Booga.

DIF:

Oh, depending on the beliefs of the architects, there could be a hotel with infinite rooms and floors, and no 13th floor!

6.62607 x 10 **-34 Joules
-the energy from one photon.
It’s been a while since I’ve had physics. Is a Joule an arbitrary constant?

I think you’re thinking of Planck’s Constant, Occam, which is 6.626 x 10^34 Joule-seconds.

The Joule is the SI Unit of energy. It’s the amount of energy required to exert a force of one Newton over a distance of one meter. (The Newton is the SI Unit of force. It’s the force required to accelerate a mass of one kilogram at a rate of one meter per second squared. (The kilogram is the SI Unit of mass. It’s … aw, ferget it.))

The truth, as always, is more complicated than that.

Interesting, Occam.

The surface area of a cube would be s^2*6.

The volume being s^3.

Equating these two, s^2*6 = s^3, we have s=6.

Thus, surface area would be greater than volume for units less than six, and volume greater for units greater than six.

This would hold for all units, from mm to light years.

As for what significance this has, it’s too deep for me at this drunken moment.

And for the meaning of life, well…

There’s always another beer.
