IMO, he’s the far better vocalist, and I’d rather listen to Art singing than Paul anyday. Paul had tremendous talent, but so did Art. Paul was probably the more well-rounded musical performer, but Art stands out in his own way. ---

For that matter, I don’t think Paul is a particularly good vocalist anyway. But my point is that good vocalists (or gutarists, drummers, or what-have-you) are a dime a dozen. But lyrical genius of Paul’s caliber is rare indeed. I don’t really mean to dis Art (though I guess I did sorta come off that way), but I rather doubt anybody would have heard of him if he hadn’t paired up with a master songwriter like Simon. \*A sympathetic stranger Lights a candle in the middle of the night Her voice cracks She jumps back But she moves on She says “Ooh my storybook lover You have underestimated my power As you shortly will discover” Then I fall to my knees Shake a rattle at the skies And I’m afraid that I’ll be taken Abandoned, forsaken In her cold coffee eyes\* ---
