Wow! I just stumbled upon this place. I didn’t think that such a thriving community could be on an internet forum with such a deep history, and the little amount that I’ve seen so far was a purely productive, smart conversation, completely free of all the slop and spam I’ve seen on lots of social media today. I’m also incredibly faded so that’s playing into my interest for this place, but I guess I’m just here to say, what’s up? ---

Welcome to the Straightdope - where the snark is hot and free flowing, the logic is occasionally ice cold, and the posters know far too much for their own good! Read a lot, post when you have something to share, and try to take the ever present snark with good cheer and appreciation for the careful diction. Do peek into the MMP, when triviality and and mundanity is raise to an art form! I’m coming up on 25 years here and I’ve enjoyed most of it. It’s pretty easy to ignore the parts I don’t enjoy. Kinda like life. 🤣 ---

Good morning! (I know, right?) I just made myself a beautiful cup of coffee and read all these replies I woke up to, I really didn’t think I’d have this much of a response. Your definitions of “faded” are all correct lol, and I’m still as curious as I was when I was ‘hip.’ I originally thought this would be one of my random internet rabbit holes I forget about the next morning, but you all seem like great people. I guess I’ll try to read and contribute where I can! ---
