I love Hello Kitty. I loved her during that first big wave of popularity, when I was in second grade or so, and I love her now. I wanted to bid on a set of stuffed Kitty and Daniel dolls in wedding outifts to use as a cake topper for our wedding, but **Dr.J** vetoed that suggestion. He said it would be so cute he’d be forced to vomit on the cake. (He also vetoed putting figurines of Lady and the Tramp or Rudolph and Clarice on there, for the same reasons. He never lets me have any fun.) I don’t actually own any Hello Kitty stuff, but only because I’m too lazy and cheap to go shopping unless I actually need something. > [@Shirley Ujest](#): > > That is just wrong. When I was 8 and 9, I loved the itty bitty Hello Kitty pencil sets with the tiny colored pencils and the itty note paper. When Hello Kitty made a comeback a few years ago, I was the HAPPIEST GIRL ON THE WHOLE PLANET. You can hate Disney and commercialism and Strawberry Shortcake and think Barbie is the devil. That’s okay. BUT…you’re allowed to give in to the Kitty. I promise. ---

Weirdest Hello Kitty merchandise I ever saw (besides the vibrator, anyway): The Hello Kitty body fat monitor. At all of the Sanrio Gift Gate stores I’ve been to in Japan, they also have Snoopy merchandise. I was confused… ---

I’m not fond of _Hello Kitty_, although I must admit I understand the attraction. I do think I could fall for _Pucca the Tomboy Ninja_, this was the first time I’d ever heard of her, and I not too familar with \*_Badtz Maru_, although I had heard the name before. However, I was in Spencer’s yesterday (don’t ask why a forty some-odd women would be in Spencer’s) and I stumbled upon character called _Happy Bunny_. It’s kind of an anti-_Hello Kitty_ concept–cute, but rude. Snarky, snide rude. I have no use for such things and no friends that would even understand why I find them so funny, but I really, really wanted to buy the stuff. Of course, I also wanted a magnet that had a picture of a group of children drawn in the style of the old _Dick and Jane_ reading primers. One girl is standing and her hand is on her skirt, which is raised just a touch. To the other children she says, “Want to see where I got my newest piercing?” I almost died! I may go back and buy it today. I am a grown up. I am. I am. ---
