Crazy-lady (Elise?) is going to be around for a long time, unfortunately (like Sabrina was last year)
Real chef’s get into their own ‘system’ of getting things done. When you go work under a major Chef (like in Paris) You have to be broken of your own habits and build the ones they want you to have. That’s what happens here. The reason they didn’t get an entree out, was not because they can’t cook an entree. It’s that Ramsay demands that every little piece of the meal comes to him in a particular order at a particular time and if one piece is off, then scrap it all and do it again. But that’s his system, and if you want to work for him, you’ll adapt or leave.
I have no idea what i"m talking about. It’s just a theory

Yeah, why would they have thought that? I mean, you’d think they hired stagehands, hair and make up people, rented out a theatre and put “Welcome Hell’s Kitchen Chefs” on a lighted sign.

The Paul/Brendan dynamic could be fun.

There can also be combinations. Thus you might have a Woman-hater Who Sweats in the Food, or an Edgy Lesbian with a Horrible Accent.

You forgot angry black woman with a chip on her shoulder…wait, wasn’t that redundant? :smack:

That would be fun to watch, but I don’t think Brendan’s gonna be around long enough for it to really get good. He was totally a deer in the headlights during service. He couldn’t find a frigging clue with miner’s hat and a canary.

I was annoyed when he scoffed at the taco. Yes, Chef Ramsey, several million people down south use tortillas to eat with everyday.

I think the idea was that the judges expected something more “upscale.”

BTW, it’s hilarious how every cook-off has a cliffhanger ending. It’s never one team that dominates in the judging.

I doubt Ramsey has a problem with tortillas as long as they don’t come out of a package I guess, but a taco in particular is like a hamburger or something. He won’t reject it outright, but it better be made perfectly and taste good.

I’m enjoying the season so far, as I don’t like any of the contestants yet, and watching Ramsey hammer them is fun. Seriously, the guys can’t get a single entree out? That’s just amazingly incompetent.

Hey, are we doing a season-long thread, or episode by episode threads?

I think we’ve done season thread the past few seasons.
I’m wondering which (if any) of the women will volunteer to shift to the men’s team. In the past, that’s been the kiss of death: the men resent your presence, will not help you out in any way, and since you ‘stand out’ in the team, any mistakes you make will be magnified.
My preference for sacrificial victim would be either of the two women who seem to have focused enmity on each other. I haven’t learned names yet, but the light-skinned black/hispanic (?) woman who tries to assume command and the girl who toddled off to the bedroom with the guy who was booted last episode.

</div>

It will be even worse for the woman this year as the men’s team came right out and said at the start that they don’t want any of the women. Which ever woman ends up going there is going to be ignored and treated like the goat by her team no matter how well she does.

This seems to be an on-going pattern on this show though. Where the women get a strong start and the men fall apart until the men shed all of thier deadweight and the women fall to in-fighting and start getting hammered.

I think he would have reacted the same way – if not worse – if he had been served a sandwich. In the past, he’s given people a hard time for serving things like salads, too. You have 45 minutes to wow Chef Ramsey; he’s expecting to see your best.

That said, the tacos were good enough that he still got the point.

Agreed. I really don’t like it when they dip a toe into Fear Factor territory. Punishing chefs who say their poorly-prepared, raw food is fine to serve by being made to eat it? Fine. Punishing the team who loses a challenge to eat food guaranteed to make them hurl? Please stop. If it keeps up this way, I’m going to stop watching.

Is this how things work in the real world? Do you have separate chefs cooking the meat course separate from the vegetables and then are expected to time everything so it’s all ready to plate at once? Or does one chef do it all? Or perhaps the vegetables are just sitting there, waiting for the meat course to be prepared?

Having eaten at two of the restaurants the finalists “win” (London West Hollywood and L.A. Market), I can tell you that a table gets served all at once, regardless of size.

If I, as a single home cook, can arrange my entrees and garnishes to be served at the same time, then professionals can (and do).

Blending them into meatshakes was a horrible thing to do, just let them eat them as already cooked so it doesn’t go to waste or wind up becoming vomit.

I don’t like those bits either—ugh, remember when one of the guy teams had to eat organs and stuff? \<shudder\>

I am glad they used all that meat, though. I had turned to my fella to say, “Wow! That’s a lot of wasted meat! I hope they like, feed the homeless or the crew or _something_”

The something was nasty!
