Maybe it’s because he doesn’t have a fat person to be cruel too, but Gordon seems a little less out of control mean this season. I think that he must have been told he should tone it down. I was impressed that they all did so well on the sandwiches but don’t think there’s an interesting personality among them. Good for Siohban when Gordon liked her sandwich. I liked Benjamin until he failed to acknowledge that maybe he was mistaken about it and continued to put her down. She wasn’t my favorite and probably deserved to go home, but it did seem like he was out for her. What really bothers me is this two hour crap. I get up super early and that last 30 minutes is a chore. Spoiler below… . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Salvatore got kicked off because in the first challenge, he undercooked a chicken meatball. He screws up a lot, so it’s fine that he went home but the next show, Nilke (?) handed him a blatently raw chicken and got a complete pass on it. ---

From what I remember of the first episode - It was a couples 50th wedding anniversary to be held in Hell’s Kitchen. Gordon charged the cooks to re-interpret classic dishes that were served at the couple’s wedding reception. Nilka got Steak Diane, and had no idea what it was. Blue side got a point for actually including cream and brandy in their dish. Next up was chicken Kiev. Salvatore decided to do chicken meatballs. Autumn noticed they weren’t being cooked through before they went up…but Salvatore still offered small pink balls to the couple. Point to the Red side for not offering raw chicken. Final dish was Jay vs. Ben, trout almondine. Marci, the female half of the couple preferred Jay’s dish, but Stan (?) and Gordon preferred Ben’s, point to the Red side and a challenge win to the Red. Blue side had to set up for the party, including decorating with balloons, piecing together the dance floor, decorating the cake and making small decorative gift boxes. Red team all put on bowling shirts for their reward. They were met outside by two '57 or '58 Chevy convertibles. They drove to a 50’s style diner and were forced to dance and hula hoop by the roller waitresses in tiny mini skirts. Siobhan won the hula hoop contest and got a large trophy. Dinner service, Red team also won the honor of serving the hosting couple. Jay cut his finger while opening a bivalve and seemed to lightheaded. We were manipulated into pondering whether or not he’d be staying…but he did and nothing further was mentioned. Usual drama, ineptness, swearing in both kitchens. Notable bad performances from the red side were Fran on garnishes, Holli on poultry… Gordon declares the Red team as the losers. He instructs them to, as a team, decide the two worst. They smoke, and try and decide. They decide Fran and Holli. Then as the Red side mingles with the Blue, the blue ask Ben if Holli is the worst cook on that side. He says she is not and that title should instead go to Siobhan. He calls the Red team together to deliberate again. Gordon calls on Holli to name the first nomination for elimination and she names Fran. He asks for the second name and Holli is unsure of who to name. Ben steps in and names Siobhan as the worst on the team because she has no experience and he sees no passion for food from her. Gordon calls Holli, Fran and Siobhan forward. He makes them grovel until he’s heard their voices enough. He scowls for the camera. He calls Salvatore forward and asks for his jacket. Apparently undercooked pink balls are unaccpetable and grounds for being tossed out on your tiny butt. ---

I was amazed at how much of a dick Ben was being to Siobhan. After they lost the challenge because he called her sandwich the worst one, he still tried to argue that her sandwich was terrible. I don’t know why she didn’t point out the Chef Ramsay didn’t think so. Was he just naturally that much of a dick, or was he playing it up for the cameras? I never can tell with these shows. ---

I stopped watching after the first ep. I was concurrently watching _Top Chef Master_, and I just couldn’t stand watching the _Hell’s Kitchen_ idiots after the pofessionalism of TCM. I’m done with it. StG ---

Geez, Ben is a douchebag! On a side note…what was up with the “challa” bread Siobhan kept requesting? Every time she would say it, the camera would show others snickering in the background, so I’m guessing that she was mispronouncing something. ---

It’s Hebrew, the “c” is silent and the “h” is kinda phlegmy. Ben did get douchey in defending their choice of not picking her sandwich, however from the description of the sandwich it did not sound like it would be good and it didn’t look good either. ---

Hey, Ed finally got some screen time! Of course, he had to strip buck naked to get it… Something I noticed: Red team Fran 44 Stacy 38 Autumn 29 Nilka 28 Jamie 26 Siobhan 25 Holli 24 Maria 24 Blue Team Jason 37 Salvatore 35 Benjamin 33 Jay 32 Scott 32 Mikey 29 Ed 28 Andrew 28 Average age of the Red team: 29.75 Average age of the Blue team: 31.75 Not very different. But if you eliminate outlier Fran (and the oldest guy, to be fair-ish) the averages are 27.7 and 31.0 Age doesn’t equate to wisdom and all that, but still, having more years of experience at cooking and life in general could make a big difference in your skill set and maturity. Maybe if they hadn’t put a premium on having ‘cute young things’ (like, there were almost NO women in their 30s who applied?) the Red team wouldn’t be making quite such a horrible showing. ---

Um, I’m not sure anyone but you was looking for a few frames of a woman’s nipple. I think the more pertinent question is: Are you that hard up for seeing female flesh? I hear the internet does wonders for that now-a-days. 😉 ---

People seem to think Sal was kicked off just for the undercooked chicken balls. Nuh uh. He was kicked out for being pretty crappy all along and Ramsey just finally having enough of it and kicking out the worst cook, even if he was on the winning team. That’s why Nilka or whoever didn’t get in as much trouble for the undercooked chicken on the next hour, she’s not completely hopeless over and over the way Sal had been. ---
