# Help an idjit make a webpage

I need to make a personal web page that has a number of audio files(not songs) that I would like to make available to stream or download. I know nothing about creating a webpage. What format of audio is best for streaming (and used by the most people)? Also, what is a good drag and drop webpage creator? Lastly, what is a cheap (free?) hosting place? Thanks

I doubt you’ll find any free web hosting that will allow much more than 2 megs worth of storage. And 2 megs doesn’t hold much in the way of audio.

Geocities gives you 15MB of storage for free. Very little bandwidth though - I paid up for the basic $4.95 a month, which is ample. (I think you get 25MB storage, too.)

I tried to upload an mp3 file and apparently you can’t so i converted it to wav and the file jumped from 3.4 megs to 75 megs. What’s up with that?

WAV is not a compressed format like MP3 is.

Ok I got an MP3 to upload. Anyone know how I can make a link to the file stream instead of automatically download?

Streaming is a specific technology.
It means (basically) that you don’t have to download the song (or part of the song) before you can play it. I know of no free servers offering streaming media.
You can let your visitors play the music on the page, once they have downloaded part/all of the song, or you could try “cheating” by embedding the mp3 in a flash file, flash has a built in “kinda streaming” function.

You need to crawl before you can walk and you already want to run. Rather than nickel and dime the Dopers with endless questions about specific details, I suggest you visit a local bookstore and pick up a book or two on how to create a web page, let alone an entire web site.

You saved it as raw PCM. You can save it as WAV but compressed and the size will be much smaller.

There is many free sites that allow 20M storage. One is [Tripod.](http://build.tripod.lycos.com/trellix/sitebuilder/f_template_list.html)
They also have a page builder for free.
Also they don’t use but one popup and a banner across the very top of the page… not near as bad as Geocites… I have tried both.
[Free host](http://free.hostdepartment.com/) has no banners… 10M for free or for $5 a month one can get 50M.
Web page building is pretty simple, I made my first when I was 62 years old with no help other than what I found on the internet.😉
