In fact, I couldn’t have said it as well! 😉 Let me add that I, too, think you are awesome for making a contribution on behalf of those Dopers who wish they could but are not in a position to do so right now. **Quasi** , I’m a pretty strong believer in realistic karma. Not that I try to do good works in the hopes that if/when I have need, someone will do good for me, but rather in the sense that, if we _all_ do what we can, when we can, we will all have what we need when we need it. I know that some years ago, my husband and I were in a _very_ tight place financially, and I don’t know how we would have gotten through those couple of tight years without so many wonderful, kind, generous people reaching out to us. Even before that, I tried to do good whenever I could, but since then, I’ve redoubled my efforts, just trying to “pay it forward”, so to speak. The government does what it can, but what’s happening right here, right now, _this_ is how _real_, wide-reaching good gets done, by a lot of people doing a little bit, voluntarily and happily! ---

Anyone who contributes, is being amply repaid in karma-currency. One suggestion: if the IRS is on your case, anything you draw down from Paypal should be gotten out of the bank immediately, lest it get caught in an IRS account attachment. Anyone know if Diosa Bellissima is still on the boards? I seem to recall she worked for a company that dealt with people in trouble with the IRS; she might have some good suggestions. ---

Dear Kids, I just finished compiling a list of donors, and I will send each of you a private message in thanks. Some of you wished to remain anonymous, and some gave their real name but not their SDMB nickname. For those who gave only real names, do I have your permission to send you an e-mail? Dee and I would like you all to know how grateful we are and that this morning, instead of just giving a couple of bucks to our church, we were able to give a little more. Part of our tithes go to our mission in Africa, so y’all didn’t only help _us_, you helped clothe and educate some folks not as fortunate as we are. In days of old, before Medicaid and Social Security, the Masons, the Odd Fellows, the Elks, (and before them, the guilds, I suppose) had very practical reasons for existence. To help fellows through the rough times, and share company in the good. We are a community here, possibly a new sort of one, possibly an old sort of one. We do what we can, because we can. ---
